Great FOOD – If you like a hearty meal for a great price, P.J.Clarke?s is your place. The food is outstanding! Everyone I have ever taken there has always wanted to go back the next day. Not to mention that they have a full bar with a great selection of mixed drinks, coffee drinks, and beer. I eat there at least once a week!
Great steak, laid-back atmosphere – My girlfriend and I went here on Saturday night after it was recommended by one of her friends. After catching a cab up to 55th, we were happy when we didn't have to wait at all for a table around 10:30. The waiter was very laid-back and accommodating, and the atmosphere was fun with the bar rustling in the other room while Johnny Cash was blasting on the jukebox. We both got a steak for dinner (me with the Steak Au Poivre, and her with the Steak Bordelaise). Both steaks were pretty much p... read more
Great service, good value, and a solid burger make this a place to not miss in NY. – First of all, this place lives up to the hype, which is what surrounds a lot of these old, famed places in NYC. It's a good little place, with a reputable beer selection on tap (including Guinness "black gold"), and a solid burger. It will inevitably draw comparison's with its long lost twin, J.G. Melon, but this one wins out for me. It comes down to a better value for what you're paying for. The service was very solid, and the burger was a ... read more
Absolutely fantastic – Perhaps I should preface my review with something about myself. Being a lifer here in Manhattan, and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (class of '94), I have known about PJ Clarke's my whole life, and I have, what I would consider, a decent knowledge of the restaurant industry. That being said, I have to say that I don't understand what some of the other folks who have posted on here are talking about...the PJ's at Lincoln Center was absolutely fantastic. As I sat at the bar waiting for t... read more
Burger – The building is old and has a lot of character(1884 I think) they do not serve an honest pint , and it's expensive, but the burger is still the best in the city.Order it medium and it won't be so dry!
Avoid this restaurant – The food is mediocre at best (burgers with soggy buns and overcooked fries), and the service is terrible. As another member mentioned, it is a glorified TGI Friday's without the friendly customer service.
The slow, corporate death of an institution. – I grew up eating at PJ Clarke's. I might have been six years old the first time I had a PJ's burger and remember feeling a sense of pride when characters like Frankie would remember my family every time we came back. Fast forward a few years and I'm walking into PJ Clarke's at Lincoln Square, wondering if I'll feel the same warm, neighborhood feeling I felt at the original for so many years. The answer, sadly, is no. What struck me was how subtle differences make such a drastic,... read more
Overhyped Burger – I was excited to try PJ Clarke's famed burger. To my dismay the burger was dry, flavorless small and lacked character. I won't be going back.
"Dread"ful waiter – I'm a member at Sidecar and have dined at PJ Clarkes many times and have enjoyed going back. The last two times, however, were not as enjoyable due to poor service. Back in May, we were served by a man who had zero knowledge of the food on the menu, and was not friendly or accommodating in the slightest. I figured he was new and still needed time to settle in. After that experience, I stopped going as frequently. Two months later, I went back for brunch, lucky enough to be served by the same guy. We began... read more
