About this business

This bar has been in existence for over 120 years now, so it is very apparent that it survived such minor irritations as Prohibition! For most of its lifetime, P.J.'s has served delicious sandwiches and burgers, along with delicious steaks make up the menu. The meals go great with the large selection of whiskeys and beers available here. The kitchen is open late, meaning you can come in and grab a bite to eat at this bar at nearly any hour.

Great FOOD – If you like a hearty meal for a great price, P.J.Clarke?s is your place. The food is outstanding! Everyone I have ever taken there has always wanted to go back the next day. Not to mention that they have a full bar with a great selection of mixed drinks, coffee drinks, and beer. I eat there at least once a week!

Great steak, laid-back atmosphere – My girlfriend and I went here on Saturday night after it was recommended by one of her friends. After catching a cab up to 55th, we were happy when we didn't have to wait at all for a table around 10:30. The waiter was very laid-back and accommodating, and the atmosphere was fun with the bar rustling in the other room while Johnny Cash was blasting on the jukebox. We both got a steak for dinner (me with the Steak Au Poivre, and her with the Steak Bordelaise). Both steaks were pretty much p... read more

Great service, good value, and a solid burger make this a place to not miss in NY. – First of all, this place lives up to the hype, which is what surrounds a lot of these old, famed places in NYC. It's a good little place, with a reputable beer selection on tap (including Guinness "black gold"), and a solid burger. It will inevitably draw comparison's with its long lost twin, J.G. Melon, but this one wins out for me. It comes down to a better value for what you're paying for. The service was very solid, and the burger was a ... read more

Burger – The building is old and has a lot of character(1884 I think) they do not serve an honest pint , and it's expensive, but the burger is still the best in the city.Order it medium and it won't be so dry!

Overhyped Burger – I was excited to try PJ Clarke's famed burger. To my dismay the burger was dry, flavorless small and lacked character. I won't be going back.

"Dread"ful waiter – I'm a member at Sidecar and have dined at PJ Clarkes many times and have enjoyed going back. The last two times, however, were not as enjoyable due to poor service. Back in May, we were served by a man who had zero knowledge of the food on the menu, and was not friendly or accommodating in the slightest. I figured he was new and still needed time to settle in. After that experience, I stopped going as frequently. Two months later, I went back for brunch, lucky enough to be served by the same guy. We began... read more

Dry Burgers – We went to this restaurant because we LOVE trying out new burger joints and seeing that P.J. Clarke's was on a top ten list...what have we got to lose? First of all...the burgers & fries are separate. Typical. So, I ordered my $8 hamburger to find that it comes on a small plate...ONLY meat & buns with an onion underneath. No lettuce, tomato or dressing...those are separate. The $6 fries come as a side IF you order them. The meat was very dry & crumbly. Outcome...OVERLY priced dry/crumbly burger with no taste. I... read more

Does not seem to be that clean, food was pretty uneventful – I know there is a history aspect to this place, but I was not impressed at all. My friend loved his burger, by my turkey club simply had no taste. The service was generally good, but the food is not good enough to make me go there again.

Beers cold, food's hot – Great pub atmosphere with an awesome burger that cures all appetites and levels of inebriation. Fun and lively 20-30 somethings crowd.
