Pleasantly Surprised – I wasn't sure what to expect from this place but had a pleasant experience there one Thursday night. The service was ok; our waiter was experienced but we were annoyed by the hostess who decided to seat us at a table up front by the bar despite the restaurant being almost empty. The restaurant is spacious but not too large and tastefullly decorated. The appetizers were flavorful and my entree (grouper) was very good and perfectly cooked. Overall, the meal was delicious and I would return in a heartbeat... read more
Exemplary service and very creative fresh food – For context setting - I'm a NYC self-proclaimed foodie in mid 30s. Maybe because we went on a Sunday night for dinner at Perilla and not a crazy Fri/Sat night, but the service was exemplary. I did ask to move my reservation by 30 minutes and was told when I called they couldn't accommodate - and the restaurant was only about 2/3 full during our dinner. If there's anything I could say negative about the service, the offer to provide the table with water was just a few minutes t... read more
recommend Perilla with caution..... – We ate there last night with another couple for NYE. 3 of us had the Boar entre which was excellent. My boyfriend unfortunately ate a crab appetizer that once got to the table had a fishy odor. We should of sent it back then. I didn't notice it sitting across from him thou our friend next to him did. Needless to say - within 2 hours he was very ill. Our New Years was cut short due to the hugging of the toilet. I plan on calling them to make them aware. The experience was great - the serv... read more
great New Year's Eve tasting menu – My fiance and I came here last night for New Year's Eve. We used opentable to book a reservation but they were filled, so I called. They had a cancellation at 9:15. The woman on the phone was extraordinarily rude. She demanded our credit card information before holding the table for us and told me two times, in a threatening tone, that we must pay the full amount of the meal for 2 people if we don't show up ($150). I heard her the first time! I understand that it's New Year's and they don'... read more
Great new Greenwich Village dinner spot – Due to a last minute change of plan, my husband and I were looking for a tasty new place to eat in Greenwich Village. We couldn't get a reservation but the hostess kindly told us that it was a good idea to stop in anyway for a table since we were mere minutes away. Sure enough, we were greeted with a welcoming smile and taken immediately to a table. First impressions were that the space was warm, clean and simple--all of which are conditions most desirable for enjoying a great meal w... read more
Awesome restaurant, fun, loud, great desserts – I didn't know quite how to take Perilla - it's a bit smallish and you could miss it unless you know where you're headed. Once inside, the atmosphere takes you quickly - the bar is nice and comfortable, the hostess was pleasant in welcoming me and my 2 friends. We were seated, and drinks were gotten for us quickly. Dinner was outstanding - the pork belly and scallop appetizers, the pork loin, the duck, the fallafel, the risotto, I can't boast enough - everything perfectly season... read more
FIRE THE MAITRE D' !!! – Let's get it out of the way... the food at Perilla is OK. It's a hit-and-miss but overall, we were satisfied with the quality of the food. Now, let's get to the reason why I was compelled to write this review. I had a reservation for a party of three for dinner. Two of us came right on time but we were not seated and was asked to wait at the bar. After having a cocktail, my friend was starving and asked me if I could request them to be seated. We figured we can start ordering appetizers. The maitre d... read more
Not anything special... – The good thing is that I actually saw Chef Harold which is awesome because most celebrity restaurants you never see the Chef. It's a nice cozy little place, the service was pleasant. However, I was disappointed with the food. I had the duck meatballs which sounded great, but it just wasn't that flavorful. The black cod wasn't memorable, and I recall I didn't really like the halibut. It's nice to say I went to the restaurant of a Top Chef winner, but I was disappointed. I'd like to try it again somed... read more
GREAT EXPERIENCE – We come to NYC each year for Thanksgiving and it's hard to pick restaurants. My friend watched the "Top Chef " show and wanted to have dinner at Perilla. I'm glad we did - very enjoyable experience. We dined Friday, Nov 23, 2007. I had made reservations thru opentable. The restaurant called me to reconfirm. We arrived early had a drink at the bar, our table was ready when we were... Service staff from the hostess to your server was great. There was three of us so we all tried something different. Risotto, ... read more
