Simple and delicious diner with vegetarian options – The last time I reviewed Paradox I was negative due to poor service and a generally unclean appearance. They have since come way up, but lost none of the pleasantly funky atmosphere. Breakfast was more than ample with delicious seasonings and perfectly cooked vegies. The price can't be beat. Service was cheerful, and a tad slow in taking orders and preparation/serving, but when we got it, the food was hot off the grill. The biscuits and almond gravy was as good as ever, bu... read more
Vegetarian Food that tastes good! – I love this place. I have been going since I discovered it this year and things just keep getting better and better. I am used to eating bland food at many of the local Portland vegan eateries and am sick of it. Paradox keeps getting better. The menu has a lot of choices and the specials are usually even better! My kids even get a good choice of healthy food that tastes good and that is so much better than other eateries that throw everything in grease and call it a kid menu. The staff wor... read more
4 grain pancakes with vegan butter and braggs. – I don't care if someone who looks like a strung out rene zelwigger gives me bad attitude, the 4 grain pancakes satisfy the soul. Also good: biscuits and almond gravy.
Love it! And, I have always served by great staff! – Great vegan and veggie stuff! Vegan french toast & sausage - yum! Great scrambles egg or tofu. I tried the vegan corndog basket and loved it like you love greezey-arse carnival food sometimes. It was seriously the size of a baby and served with a huge plateful of fries! I couldn't even fathom eating 1/2 of the plate! I love the yum-yum carob shake...but wish they would throw real non-dairy shakes in the mix because this would be the perfect place for them! The other desser... read more
Nice wait person, Great waffle – I had the breakfast #3 and my husband had the soup/salad combo. The garden sausage was pretty tasty, the waffle was soooooooo good. My husband loved the onion/herb bread that came with his soup, and his only complaint was that it was too much food! Our wait person was friendly and attentive.
Great Hole-in-the-wall diner for Vegetarians – There were four in my party: two vegans, a semi-vegetarian, and an omnivore. We showed up on a Sunday for lunch and, after a brief wait, we got a booth and each found something satisfying and tasty. I was stoked to see that they offer breakfast all day, especially when I realized that they had veggie sausage! It had the best texture and blend of spices I've ever had (and I've tried them all.) Overall, I'd say our waitress, Hailey, was the shining star of the experience. She was ... read more
The worst food in Portland – After waiting 45 minutes to get two entrees, my girlfriend and I were utterly disgusted. I am a chef myself, and I couldn't believe this stuff was served. I ordered a breakfast combo plate, really hoping it would be good veggie food. My "tofu" eggs were cold and in large liquidy chunks with CINNAMON liberally sprinkled all over them, the biscuits couldn't be chipped into with a hammer and chisel - my girlfriends breakfast burrito had the most oddball vegetables in it, it was more like a nasty veg... read more
Best breakfast in Portland! – This is the bottom line on Paradox: excellent food, reasonable prices, and a popular place. I have to say that perhaps to avoid any negative experiences like some of the reviewers just come in with a positive attitude and be respectful. There is a great atmosphere there and the staff are friendly and work very hard. Just keep in mind that if you show up for Sunday morning brunch, for example, it will be packed! Also the prep time on the food is not very fast, but the staff is attentive and you w... read more
Ummmm... – yeah...if you all keep giving a place like paradox some biz what's the point in making the service more 'happy' for all you folks? In general Portland service at best is lame, below par all around. Most places don't give a crap if service is bad because folks just keep coming back because the foods good or they get good service 4 out the 10 times they've been. I don't think it's what you wear or how you smell..it's Portland, it's SE granola cool attitude...just deal...cuz it ain't a changin'.
