The Orpheum over prices its performances to exclude the largest portion of Memphis residents, or in the rare occasion the tickets are available at a lessened price, people that can offered those tickets are forced them to sit in the back (almost back of the bus type sitting) ... I find this offensive ... it caters to those of wealth and excludes those of financial struggles ...which is humerus in that this theater was once an escape for the struggles of the average working man ... now it excludes the average man. The Orpheum is a beautiful theater and I love going to shows and movies there. They recently made a decision they knew would be unpopular with a few people, and they are standing by it. That is the kind of business that gets my business. If you want to give up your season tickets, I will gladly take them off your hands, and the great news is that if your life is incomplete because you can't see a movie - you can always rent it from any number of platforms.
No more Gone with the Wind? I've seen so many movies and concerts here, I can't even count them all. I used to love having "date nights" with my wife here, watching classics during the Summer Movie Series. "As God is my witness," I shall never enter the Orpheum again. Too bad, because I used to enjoy it.
I gave it a 1 because ZERO isnt an option!! I can't believe that you have removed a beautiful love story such as "Gone with the Wind" from your summer concert series. You have offended me as an American citizen. I have always supported your venue and the Broadway shows that you have there. Never again will the Orpheum get another dollar from me. Grand and beautiful Orpheum, you are loved! It is your owners and curators, board of directors and investors, who are a big disappointment. They are weak and afraid of the irrational and emotional! The increasing groans of those left of center have caused them to tremble. Censorship is emerging. The past does not have to be demolished and buried for the future to exist. #savegonewiththewind
We love the Orpheum. This was a good year to take a break from Gone With The Wind. They drop and add movies all the time so folks shouldn't fret. GWTW may be back some day. They made a tough decision when controversy and emotions are running high here in Memphis. Thank you for being responible and compassionate.
What are you thinking??? Almost every show you bring in can be offensive to some group. Are you going to cancel them all because of a complaint? You might as well lock the doors on the theater and board up the new Halloran center.
Apparently there are those out there who will never be satisfied until everything regarding the civil war is erased from history . The Orpheum has apparently made a conscious decision to join the ranks of those people. Will never support the Orpheum in any way again in the future . Shame on you for this censorship .
Had a great time on my first visit to the Orpheum.
