Huge portions of hotcakes, hash browns and burgers are what have kept this place a part of the Portland dining scene for more than 20 years. One of the more happening after-bar places to eat, the hot spot offers food that might not be too healthy, but you will not care once you indulge. The namesake hotcakes are big and fluffy. Hash browns are also good, but ask for them well done if you like them crispy. This is the perfect end to a wild night out or the start of a lazy day.

24 hour eats – I love this place! It has great hashbrowns and ham steaks. I came here after prom night, as trashy as that may sound... But when you got a craving this is your place!
Perennially packed diner serves a full menu of breakfast favorites and burgers all hours of the day. – In Short Vinyl booths, a jukebox and a service counter create the ambience of a classic greasy-spoon diner. Big portions and lots of carbs are just the ticket for those looking to fill up or soak up the late-night alcohol. The plate-sized hotcakes are deservedly famous, dripping with syrup. Other breakfast items include omelettes, waffles and biscuits and gravy. A bevy of lunch and dinner plates is also available, like stea... read more
Greasy spoon delight` – If you don't care about the grease, this is the place. You can count on cooking the old fashioned way: without a concern for anyones health, as long as it tastes good! This kind of eating is great once in a while and everybody should treat themselves once in a while to the way grand ma used to cook, when in doubt, add a little butter.
A Greasy great value – You know what you're going to get when you come to this place, good food cooked the old fashioned way, no radiccio salads here, just good bacon and eggs, pancakes, without any concern for one's health. But ya gotta go out and have some of that once in a while. this is the spot.
the best greasy spoon Portland has to offer – There are systems and rules in place, and as long as you follow then you'll get along great. I've been a patron sice they used to yell the orders back and forth. No saving tables, by the time you order someone will have left anyways. Bease pancakes in Portland hands down. Giant yummy omlets, giant plates of hashbrowns. Terrible coffee. These area few of my favorite things...
THE BEST – I seem to always order the same thing...mushroom and cheese omelet with hash browns. The portion is so big. Food is yummy and greasy (in a good way) and definately hits the spot. If you go there, be ready to order, eat, and leave promptly. There aren't too many seats in this place. If you want a place to read your book or do your homework...go find yourself a Starbucks.
they remember me! – Great food for not a huge amount of cash. After just a few visits, the staff remembered me, and what my "usual" was. I was greatly impressed. No long waits, no B.S. Just good food.
Great food, lacking in everything else. – I was a regular at the Hot Cake House for quite some time. The food is wonderful for the price range. The problem is with the staff. I've been there easily one hundred--never seen anything that resembled a security problem. Now they charge a cover after midnight to pay for their security. The guards they hired are quite unfriendly. The staff is also rather grumpy and not at all prompt. They boot people from the place seemingly at random. There are also large crowds--who come only for... read more
Good eats – Cheap, but certainly good. Go for the potato pancakes, which come with sour cream and applesauce. Or try them with a side of sausage gravy for $1.25 more. The pancakes were good, but wish they would mix blueberries/strawberries in the batter, rather than pour compote on top.
