Always late or missing equipment....just never make it easy to donate
After what I witnessed in the mobile unit at Florida Community College Jacksonville on June 10th, I will never donate blood again. HAND WASHING before venous sticks are NON-EXISTENT. Hand sanitizing, although not preferred over hand washing, was also not used. When you've touched your hair, door knobs, clipboards, and other surfaces it is imperative that hand washing is thoroughly conducted before putting on gloves to stick someone with a needle. I went to the office on the hospital campus in Altamonte. There was only 2 staff members there and I am really bad with names but they were both great. The whole experience took about an hour and was pleasant. I made an appointment for my next donation too. I expected a long wait due to it being the anniversary of the Pulse shooting but it was not. Giving blood is a great way to be a part of my community. It feels good knowing that I can help others by giving a little bit of myself. The technicians always make it a smooth and easy experience, and they play the best music. I always look forward to visiting the Big Red Bus.
