The California rolls here are the absolute best in Springfield. As far as the regular menu, for the price, not all that spectacular. If I am going to spend money on dinner, I am going to Clarys or Bijans. The atmosphere is fun and for such a small crowded place it is easy to talk and actually hear your conversations. I would recommend trying it after work for a martini and california rolls but other than that I probably wont go back.
The food here is phenomenal! I recently moved here and my friend who is a chef was visiting and we decided to stop in for lunch. We were blown away by the incredible food. I had the Asiago Cheese Dusted Crispy Panko Chicken and it was delicious. There were two sauces on the plate a rich creamy cheese sauce and a lighter brown tangy sauce with a hint of sweetness. Ocean Zen is a little overrated mainly due to the lack of knowledge by the local population having little exposure to fusion cuisine. One here might assume that high prices and a decent environment makes it a four and a half star restaurant. The sushi is _ok_ but Umi is far superior as they serve fresh Toro. The salads at Ocean Zen are difficult to eat and the presentation of the food (although nice) does not fit the taste. I prefer Bijans sea bass and Flame has superior steaks. My food was OK but not as good as I expected for the price. When we accidentally touched the light fixture, the manager (or owner) got upset and gave a lecture about how delicate it was. It was not an experience that one wants to repeat.kg
If you are looking for a nice, quiet intimate restaurant for good conversation and food, avoid Ocean Zen.
this place rocks. i have now chosen this as my sushi place! I go here above all others . Tsunami roll, las vegas roll, and good old shrimp tempura are awesome.
Ocean Zen is worth your time and money. I have eaten there several times over the past year or two and have never been dissappointed. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Many seafood restaurants overcook their fish, but everything I have eaten at Ocean Zen has been cooked perfectly; the chef is very well trained. If you like sushi, youll love Ocean Zen. The prices are reasonable and the california rolls are the best!
