??Oba! Restaurante y Refresqueria opened in Portland, Oregon in October 1997. Owner Steve McLain, who had spent the 1980s managing and owning restaurants in high-profile markets such as the Bay Area and Los Angeles, had already completed a successful purchase and turnaround of Hall Street Grill in a Portland suburb ??? a restaurant that continues to thrive under his ownership today. Eager to open a second venture in a more urban setting, McLain chose the heart of the Pearl District. At the time, this gritty, industrial area ... read more

Whatever happened... – Ok, a good place can't stay good forever. So Oba started going down perhaps about two years ago. Yes, it is still pleasant, offers an interesting yuppish zoo, drinks are good but expensive, food is better than ok although the menu has not changed much in five years. Service has never been particularly personable, at least at the bar, but the really troublesome feat is... did they really have to make one of the few cigar havens NON SMOKING?
Look good, eat good. – Oba is a nice place to eat with a group as I've been there a few times and have enjoyed the experience each time.
stellar – I am new to portland and have tried many fine dining resturants in the metro area. May I say that none of these so called fine diners have anything on oba. My date was so impressed. The atmosphere was so splendid and romantic, the mood was perfect. The servers were very kind, and engaged my every request without hesitation. The food was awsome my favorite the vaca frita, the presentation was so beautiful I was amazed. So over all my experience at oba was one I will never forget, I recommend oba to anyone deserving ... read more
Definitely an amazing experience! – We had the best experience! Food was excellent, service was excellent! Great atmosphere. A little loud, but the lighting was still low enough that the experience was romantic...
What happened – Its too bad when a good place kills itself. Unless you like overintoxicated want to be ???. I don't know what they want to be. But I don't want to be whatever it is. Honestly foods been consistently tasty and innovative for latin in portland. The prices of drinks have gone up and the service and personality of the staff and customers has gone down. If you eat dinner dine with Gene.
Mighty Tasty! – The best I've had in Portland. Try the Baked Argentina. Yum!
My Favorite! – This is my most favorite restaurant in downtown. The flavors are different and the atmosphere wonderful. Go!
Pleasantly Surprised – I went to Oba for a work dinner with a fairly negative attitude based on the reviews I had read here and my previous dining experience 4 years back. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the food. I had the rib eye steak, which had a good flavor and was very tender. The appetizers of coconut shrimp and the ceasar salad were outstanding. I would definitely go back at this point.
Overrated! – Pretty to look at, but the food's silly and pretentious. Oba's a fun place to hang out and have a few drinks but let's face it, they're just not that serious about the food.
Oba Restaurante has a 4.1 star rating with 341 reviews.
Oba Restaurante is closed now. It will open at 9:00 a.m.
