??Oba! Restaurante y Refresqueria opened in Portland, Oregon in October 1997. Owner Steve McLain, who had spent the 1980s managing and owning restaurants in high-profile markets such as the Bay Area and Los Angeles, had already completed a successful purchase and turnaround of Hall Street Grill in a Portland suburb ??? a restaurant that continues to thrive under his ownership today. Eager to open a second venture in a more urban setting, McLain chose the heart of the Pearl District. At the time, this gritty, industrial area ... read more

Oba rocks – The food is not the best in the city, but the combination of very good food, different flavors and the atmosphere makes it my favorite place in Portland. I always have a great time when I'm here. Try the Oba Ceasar for a different take on that salad, as well as the steak/fish dishes. If anything is weak here, the deserts can sometimes be off but are usually (particularly the volcano cake) very good.
Overall okay – The food was very fatty, I could not finish my fundito dip because there was so much oil on it. My strawberry margarita was great, and my boyfriend really enjoyed his food (and the rest of mine)
Great Fun Food – Wonderful flavors, great attention to detail from service thru to dessert. Our server Rory was great. The other staff was very attentive. The food is terrific. Can save $ if you go for early bird specials or happy hour specials . Drinks are the best!! My favorite restaurant in Portland.
Rory was an awsome server!!! – I drove 100 miles to try this restaurant. I'm happy I never read the reviews here, because I probably would'nt have gone. We had a WONDERFUL experience. The food was excellent, my blood orange margarita was delicious and I can't say enough about our server Rory's knowledge of the menu, friendliness and service! Wow, it sounds like people are talking about 2 different restaurants. I think keeping reviews posted for a long time does a serious disservice to restaurants. Restaurant managers strive ... read more
happy hour is great – i went in for happy hour. it was fantastic. i had the queso fundido(cheese dip) it was absolutely amazing. the drinks were great as well. You rarely see a food and drink happy hour. i will be back
Great Restaurant – Highly Recommended. Great location, atmosphere and happy hour food and drinks!
Check out the happy hour – This is by far the best restaurant in town for happy hour! The service can be sometimes slow, but the margarita is worth it! The dining room experience can be hit or miss. go early if you are going to have dinner to avoid the crowd and the noise level that comes with it. The food is great, on and off the bar menu. Great wine list, and the decorations are cool. This is a special occasion place, as it can get expesnive real quick.
Excellent! – I love this place. I have been to Oba a number of times, each time having a great unique experience. The food is always good, the location perfect, and the restaurant beautifully decorated. I love taking out-of-town people there, because it really shows the diversity of Portland's restaurant scene. Oba is by far one of my favorite Latin restaurants. My only complaint is that it can be very noisy, and very hard to have a conversation.
Horrific Experience – After over a year of frequenting Oba for First Thursday and other nights out, my friends and I had the worst experience ever. After asking the bartender for assistance several times to close our tab, he backlashed at one of my friends, call her names and other very inapprorpriate comments. We asked for the manager but he stood there dumbfounded and didn't do anything except offer free drinks on our next vist. Yeah Right. We will NEVER be back.
