??Oba! Restaurante y Refresqueria opened in Portland, Oregon in October 1997. Owner Steve McLain, who had spent the 1980s managing and owning restaurants in high-profile markets such as the Bay Area and Los Angeles, had already completed a successful purchase and turnaround of Hall Street Grill in a Portland suburb ??? a restaurant that continues to thrive under his ownership today. Eager to open a second venture in a more urban setting, McLain chose the heart of the Pearl District. At the time, this gritty, industrial area ... read more

Oba Restaurante This is a great place to go if you're looking for some nightlife in the Pearl. Their food is always exceptional, and they have a great bar. If you're a thirty something this is the place for you.
The best happy hour around Super atmosphere. Phenomenal drinks. Great happy hour food menu. Oba can get pretty loud so having a in-dept conversation is not possible. Great place to start the night.
Love the ambiance! If you're looking for a fun place to start a night on the town, than Oba's the place for you. Stop in for their happy hour and try something from their happy hour menu. They have good cosompolitans too. Parking isn't the easiest to find, but it's worth trying this restaurant/bar out once. Wait staff are friendly, and there is a diversity of people who go there. Also, would be a way romantic place for an anniversary or a first date. PROS: Great for a happy hour party! CONS: Parking is not so good.
Fantastic Happy Hour Sunday's happy hour is the best. The prices, the service and the food and drinks are phenomenal. I love the atmosphere. I recommend the Oba cocktail and the Cosmopolitan. I also recommend the fundido dip!
The food is decent but the owner is the slime of the earth. My brother waited tables there until the owner fired him for visiting our dying mother too often. This was after he gave my brother permission to take leave to visit her. Owners like that don't deserve your patronage.
Fabulous Steaks – We have been to Oba 3 times now, and every Filet was savory and amazing. They change the preperation frequently so we had different styles each time which makes it easy to go back and see what's next. The staff are friendly and know the menu inside and out. You do want reservations a week or so ahead of time, but if you don't mind the Bar area, you can walk-in and hope for a table there too. Love it!
Good Happy Hour – I have mixed feelings about Oba. Some of it was very tasty. Some not so much. The table made guacamole really is worth the money but my fish tasted a little old (and by a little, I mean as in "a little pregnant") and my drink could have used a little less sugar. But it's a hopping place and I wouldn't mind trying it again (just probably sticking to beer and things that have a longer shelf life than fish).
Great food. Odd experience. – The good news is that the food is as tasty as ever. The bad news is that the service was confused at best. 2 of us showed up on a Friday night at 8:45 and wanted to sit in the dining room so we could converse and avoid the loud music and crowd in the bar. We were sat at a booth and immediately made aware by our waiter that we were clearly her last table and were interfering with her plans to get done with work. At first we only ordered a few things and she was clearly irritated that we weren't s... read more
