Oak Alley is a beautiful plantation that needs to have a deeper reflection and education on the history of slavery. On the guided tour, all guides are dressed in plantation owner outfits. They are all white. While this is already unappealing, during the tour they give no account or perspective of a slave's life. Instead they illustrate the Roman family, the slave and plantation owner, as a sympathetic family who's eventual decline should be regarded with sadness. Husband and I celebrated our 24th anniversary by staying in the cabins here. What a beautiful back drop. Superb food and relaxing evening walking the grounds! Thank you Oak Alley for preserving our history for future generations.
