Show up before 11:30AM for the weekend. – I would have to Ocean Star is your typical Dim Sum place in the San Gabriel Valley. The lines are long during brunch hours on the weekends. The dishes are just ok. Nothing to write home about. The best dish is the nan wan bao (Yellow Egg Custard Bao).

great food – This chinese restaurant serves dim sum and dinner. Dim sum portions can be small, but it surely tastes amazing. This places stands above others which I ate at in Monterey Park. Dinner's cooking doesn't change either. Every plate tastes great. Try the bitter mellon soup, it's awesome!

Excellent food for a REAL CHINESE – Yes, this is the place where Chinese people go for REAL CHINESE. Just keep in mind that when you show up at a restaurant that serves the Chinese, be prepared to SPEAK very slowly as the servers may not understand you.

Wedding Reception Option #12 – just eat for yourself and see I think I am going to have my wedding there.

An Old Time Favorite. – Many wedding banquets were held here, including a couple that I attended many years ago (?) God I'm only 33. Anyway, a friend of mine had flew in from Singapore and decided this was the place to go since either of us haven't been here in years. We ordered a boat load of food for two, but could tackle for four. As soon as the food arrives, it is so good that it took me back in time. Every dish was FRESH in taste. The steam Perch is always a must whenever I go to this type of restaurant and it was done ... read more

Crowded standard place – This dim sum place gets really crowded on the weekends and the wait is over an hour if you get there after 12. They have the dim sum in carts and they've got a lot of variety but you have to wait for the carts and you feel pressure to eat fast and leave. The dim sum is all the standard stuff though, nothing too different or interesting.

Great Dim Sum – It's where I go when I want Dim sum, great variety, very noisy(what dim sum is all about), and feels just like home in hong kong. highly recommended for anyone into authentic chinese food

The best we've had yet! – We kind of consider ourselves American dim sum connosieurs, having sampled it wherever (and whenever) we can. Therefore, even though our old favorite place downtown satisfied us, we thought we had to try some places in Monterey Park. Well, if this restaurant is any indication, we have hit the jackpot! Seriously, Ocean Star delivered on all fronts. All of the selection and freshness we expect was there, served by mostly friendly women. But the best thing was the food - just unbelievably excellent, in... read more

Authentic? Yes. Good but not great. – With the increasing population of Chinese in the San Gabriel Valley, the gourmet standard of Chinese cuisine has been raised. Ocean Star, at one point in time, was very good, but its quality has gradually deteriorated. Don't get me wrong. It still serves decent authentic Cantonese cuisine and the prices are reasonable, but can hardly rival its better competitions in the area, let alone Hong Kong's.
