Insufficient service for a big restaurant; greasy dumplings – We've tried many dim sum restaurants in this area, and Ocean Star on recommendation. We were seated promptly, but in 40 minutes at the restaurant were able to order only 3-4 dishes. This is because we were not seated on an aisle, and every cart seemed to turn the wrong direction. I felt like standing on my chair and yelling for service. I didn't. We were so hungry that we finally hailed over a taro cake cart and seemingly feasted. We soon regretted that because it... read more

Highly overrated! The food was average at best and the service was slow, stupid and unattentive. – I went to the Ocean Star with a big group of people and were seated in this stage-like area that had 2 steps to get up to. As a result non of the dim sum carts could go up the stairs. None of the servers bothered to check on us and ask if we wanted any of the food, they just kept walking by. We literally had to get out of our seats when we would see a cart and go up to it to see what they had and if we wanted any. Making it wor... read more

Best Dim Sum – If you're in LA, make some time to drive to Monterey Park to try this place. Pace yourself when ordering. Don't jump in and order everything you see right away, because they have so many variety of dim sum, you'll be full and saying to yourself I should have try that instead of two orders of Har Gao! Har Gao (steamed shrimp dumpling) by the way, is done the way it should be. Perfect skin, fresh filling!

you decide yourself – i'll just talk about a situation that i had at this restaurant and you guys can decide....when we were eating a lady came by and took one of the plates from our table.....so i was kinda confused by why she did what she did...so when she came around i asked her why did u take away my plate ... and she said and i quote " why why ??? why??? " said something in chinese and turned around then left. i was upset by her behavior so I called somebody who seemed to speak english and she apologized.....as an asian... read more

Always pleasant – Ocean Star is a safe bet when you want some decent dim sum. I love that there is never a long wait for seats or food. The dim sum is not the best i have ever had but its good enough to being out of town friends.

Best Dim Sum in Town! – Ocean Star is a huge restaurant and offers a wide variety of dim sum items. The traditional dim sum items, har gow, shui mai, bao, are all good but while you're there (and if you're willing to be a bit adventurous), try some of the more authentic items like the chicken feet. Those are sooo good! Also, as far as the service, I agree the service could be better, but hey it's Dim Sum! It's the fastest "fast food" there is (you could still be standing, just about to sit down, and the food is already on yo... read more

Slight improvement – I've been going to this restaurant for years, mostly because my parents always seem to go there for family birthdays. The food is decent and definitely more authentic than Americanized fusion places like P.F. Chang's, but the wait service is just lacking. They're very sloppy looking (some of the male waiters even had long pinky nails...what purpose that serves, I don't know), they barely acknowledge you, and when placing food on the lazy susans, they often look as if it were their first time waiting! The... read more

It used to be better – This used to be a great dim sum restaurant. It's not bad now, but it's definitely not what it used to be. Service is still good, compared to other similar establishments (the servers actually greet you and explain what they're serving, although some of them don't speak a lick of English), and the food, though decent, lacks variety. I see a lot more choices in other dim sum joints. Clams in black bean sauce are a must.

Good Dim Sum at a great price! – Good Dim Sum at this local Asian spot. Service is poor...but this is typical of an Asian locale. The food is pretty authentic. Warning if you're not Asian...they will bombard you with choices...as in, all the carts will be by your table and the ladies offering up their dishes. It is OK to say no thank you...unless you're feeling very adventurous! The standard dim sum fare is offered...har gow, siu mai, chicken feet, pork ribs, shrimp in a blanket and turnip cake, etc.
