Best sushi, awesome staff – This restaurant has the freshest fish! I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. The staff is awesome and the service is prompt. VERY elegant atmosphere with pretty good pricing.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Great Sushi; Quick Service – I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was referring to because we were just at Nippon on October 26, 2008 and they were indeed open - even at 2:30 PM. They have great lunch specials and bento boxes but we ordered a la carte sushi. It was fresh and tasty and the service was extremely quick. It was almost as if they knew what we were going to order and had it waiting for us. Will definitely return.
When will it Re-open?? – I visited Nippon today, for the first time since Hurricane Ike. The restaurant was closed and there was no sign of life. I live in San Antonio TX and dine at Nippon every time I am in Houston. Does anyone have information about Nippon. Did the restaurant go out of business or not re-open after "Ike"? Please, Houstonians, let me know.
Faithful customer – My whole family loves this place. Yes, the service may be a little slow, but it's worth the wait. We travel over from the north - close to Spring - to get his awesome sushi. Our recommendations are: California rolls, Nippon rolls, Crazy rolls (spicy) and the Dragon rolls (spicy). Yummy!!!
Good Sushi, Hit-or-Miss Service – I've been to Nippon on various occasions with various types of people. The atmosphere is unpretentious and laid-back. Sushi is average, never bad. Foot traffic is moderate (surrounded by restaurants and the Museum District) and customers range from older gray-haired couples to Montrose crowds, so people watching is great. HOWEVER, although the place is staffed with at least 2-3 people at a time, service can be INCREDIBLY slow. When I go with a group of girlfriends, I always get great service... read more
Great Sushi @ a reasonable price – I couldn't believe that there is not one single decent Japanese restaurant in Houston until my hairstylist (he is Japanese- KENZO) told me about Nippon. My husband and I went there on Friday night, the food/sushi is GREAT and fresh! The only drawback is the parking. It's VERY difficult to find a parking space if you get there late. The restaurant itself is pretty small but it doesn't bother me much. I rather go to a small/ not-so-trendy restaurant than a fancy one if the food taste great. A... read more
RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE – So a co-worker and i wanted to place an order to go so we asked for a menu it took us calling 3 times to get one over a period of 45 mins. that is rediculous.. the waiter who anwsered said "were too busy right now to send it to you , let us buss some tables and take some more orders then we will send it to you" that is soo rude they did not even want to send it until i threatened with "if your too busy we can order from somewhere else!" thats just completely rediculous to me. its really not worth eati... read more
Most authentic Japanese food in Houston... – Nippon Restaurant was one of the first Japanese restaurants in Houston and is run by a husband (Naoki-san) and wife (Miami-san) team. The food is delicious, and very authentic. My mother is Japanese, and Nippon is where I go when I miss the homecooked Japanese meals (from umeboshi onigiri to sukiyaki) from my childhood. The sushi portions are less American-sized than other, trendier restaurants, but the fish is fresher and tastier than those trendy sushi spots. In Japan, sushi is ... read more
Outstanding – My huband and I have eaten at Nippon no less than 20 times. I can say with absolutely no exaggeration that we have not had one single bad experience. We have been for dinner and for lunch (with lunch being our favorite as they have wonderful bentos), we have been seated inside and outside (with our favorite being at the bar) and 100% recommend everything we have tasted. The sushi has never been anything but extraordinary (Naoki is amazing) and the tempuras light and delicious. We recommend the toro, maguro, sak... read more
