"Good food" and "cheap" are words that foodies in New Orleans love to find all under one roof. The lines here at Mother's Restaurant are a true testament to the food, if not to the great prices. The lines really are long- sometimes out the door. So if you're going and it's cool, wear a coat.Things like atmosphere and decor would only increase the overhead expense so they are not relevant here. Pictures of numerous famous patrons line the plain walls; but no one comes for the scenery. It's all about the food, especially the o... read more

Red beans and rice jambalaya tater salad 👍🏻😋
Awesome place to eat.
Great food and friendly service. Always packed but moves quickly
This restaurant is RIGHT across from our hotel window (Staybridge). For two days we watched people line up, hour after hour, to eat. Finally we decided to find out for ourselves and BOY was I glad! Great atmosphere and fantastic flavourful food. It is worth the wait!👍😍
Lots of food but maybe I don’t know what Cajun food was to taste like very bland
Business response:
Laurie, we think there's been a mistake. Mother's serves classic New Orleans food, which leans towards Creole. It's mild.
Best Jambalaya and Bloody Mary! Fun atmosphere. All the ladies yelling your name.... not your typical restaurant.
My wife and I ate here July 4th. This is what Louisiana food is all about. Anyone that visits from out of town and wants a TRUE selection of Southern dishes, or just wants to be reminded of grandmas cooking ....this is it. Gumbo was awesome. Potato salad was amazing. Beans and Rice with Ham was the best. This place isn’t the ritz, it’s like stepping into someone’s kitchen. The people that worked there were super nice and helpful as well. So glad we finally made it there and can’t wait to go back on our next visit.
Food was not enjoyable, we never saw our server after we received our food so no drink refills. The restaurant was promoted as black owned during Essence n it is owned by a older white lady ( false advertisement).
Business response:
Janice, with all due respects, you are mistaken. "Promoted as black owned" by who? Not us. Please send us a message letting us know where you saw this. Our owner is clearly listed on the menu. He is low key and never promoted. The lady you mention is the founder; she passed away decades ago.
Extremely disappointed the food wasn't worth the wait, waited for maybe an hour. The food was unseasoned and wasn't very good. I will never go to Mother's again. I would not recommend visiting this restaurant. Customer service was terrible, there was only one waitress handling all of the tables. Just to much going on.
Business response:
We’re sorry we failed to meet your expectations.
