Home of American Democracy and Apple Pie – Honestly I enjoyed the space of the former location, but the draw for me really wasn't the space or the menu but the apple pie. A restaurant and ice cream parlor rolled into one. – In Short Old-fashioned ice cream parlor chairs mix with modern light fixtures. While ice cream scoopers do their job at the counter, R&B plays over the crowd. Skip the food and head straight to the ice cream – I ordered the thai rice noodle salad which was quite bland. Everyone else seemed to be fine with what they ordered (burgers and chicken salad) The ice cream is delicious and extremely smooth.

Certainly overrated – This is the type of place that gets good reviews b/c people WANT a great little place to talk about. The reality is that it doesn't live up to expectations. We had a turkey sandwich - the turkey was dry and tasted like it was a week old. My partner's noodles were awful. Now, I'm picky, so if it was only me who didn't like it, that would be one thing. But my partner can eat just about anything and she hated it too. We left hungry and ate somewhere else. That is the first time that has ever happened.

More Than Good Food – I love this place. I go there at least once a week. The food is good, the atmosphere is great, and the owner is cool.

Less than good ice cream – Don't believe the hype. An overpriced ice cream parlor with a cafeteria-ambience restaurant on the other side of the curtain does not deserve to be a "Philly institution." The food is bland, though largely proportioned, and people still seem to gain an overriding joy from seeing large slices of apple pie (whatever the quality of the pie). I guess that's what keeps the myth going.

Better than just DQ – Everything is huge, everything is rich, everything is worth every penny. There is nothing better than always knowing that the desserts at More Than Just Ice Cream will be fantastic. I take friends there all the time, and not once has there been a complaint. You can't beat the hours either when you feel like a late night snack.

A place to meet and eat – MTJIC has in my opinion has gotten to be a Philly institution. It's name says it. It isn't a fancy restaurant so don't expect table cloths and candles. It IS a pleasant place to meet friends, to have a reasonably priced meal and, yex, to get a dessert with high caloric values. The menu has varied offerings in the line of sandwiches and soups. And there are usually two or three specials for those who something more. As for the desserts, I'd suggest you try them ... there are a lot of options.
