It is difficult to narrate the experience of tasting Mike's chili for the first time. The recipe has been in the family for several generations and it is no wonder why. The decor is not the reason this eatery has been in business for nearly eight decades. There is usually a game on the television and chili stains on the tables, but this isn't the kind of place you come to for white linen-topped tables. Chili, chilidogs, chili fries and scores of other chili concoctions top the menu.

Greek style chili, kind of like Cincinnati chili but without the sweet spices. Meaty, oily, a little bit of spicy, good stuff. I had their chili burger, which was more like chili over burger. I really enjoyed it. Be sure you know going in it's cash only. They have an ATM inside just in case.
Use to eat lunch there during the summer cruise ship season... never again. Chili was ok, the guy behind the bar was a dick. It was about 5 summers ago. I sat down as a group was leaving. I overheard one of them say "I've lived in Ballard for 30 years, and never been in". He also said he liked the chili and would be back. After they left, the guy behind the bar said "he lived here for 30 years and never came in?" "Thats the type of customers we don't need". I guess you don't need my money either. Dick nose
This is the best Chili spot in the state! I crave the chili fries weekly and the owners, staff and regulars make it the best bar in town!!
Our family has been coming here for many years. It is consistently good with hearty portions. If you like authentic chili and are OK with the neighborhood bar ambience, it is hard to beat.

You have never had chili until you go to Mike's Chili. It is small and no one under 21 allowed inside but that doesn't stop me from stopping in and getting chili to go for me and my son. The food here is off the hook...just order a bowl and throw in some onions and cheese and your on heaven...not recommended if you have a day full of meetings the next day.
