About this business

This coffee shop's truck-stop flavor hails from decades ago when Harry Hines was the main highway north. Diners feel as if James Dean might walk through the door at any time. Dallas journalists, lawyers, businessmen, celebrities and politicians drop in to partake of huge breakfasts and "blue plate" style lunches. Photographs of long-time customers and eclectic memorabilia adorn the walls. It's busy, loud and the food is excellent. For breakfast try the home-style chicken fried steak and eggs with hash browns, large, buttery ... read more

Tried the new Mecca in my neighborhood and was somewhat disappointed. The menu was similar to the original, but missing the breakfast ham steak I loved that covered the plate. It was a bit pricey too with most all meals at \$10 and \$3 for a milk. They were pushing a \$5 cinnamon roll as a highlight, but I dont even remember there being one before.Since it was dinner we ordered the Ham and Beans bowl dinner for \$6.99 and Liver and Onions for \$9.99. But when the bill came the Ham and Beans bowl was \$9.99.The young waiter t... read more

I have not eaten here in years, but am going this week. I am writing referencing the descripttion, it is poetic, but historically weak. The Mecca Cafe was not on Harry Hine (look it up in history, the s was added later) originally, nor at a time when the street was the main N/S thoroughfare. Yes it was a major street. The Mecca used to be at Denton Dr. and Mockingbird. It had to relocate when the west runway at Love Field was built. I maybe wrong, but I believe their current building was originally another Dallas icon, no lo... read more

Very disappointed – Biscuits were great, ham steak was tasty (and large), but that's about it. Pork chops were flavorless and on the tough side, eggs and hash browns were just ok. For $32 for breakfast for two, food should have been a lot better.

What Happened? – What has happened to the Mecca? We don't get the opportunity to visit often and it has always been a special treat when we do, that was until yesterday. What has happened? The omelets have always been big and fluffy filled with lots of cheese, yesterday the omelets were flat and I actually had to open the omelet looking for the cheese! The biscuits were always as big as your fist, that definitely was not the case yesterday. The vist was a big disappointment to the both of us. Has this place been sold, if so,... read more

Great customer service, great people, and great food – Wow where do I start? The Mecca fits it's name to a T. I went to the establishment on 2/27/10 and 2/28/10 because it's that good. I ordered the steak eggs and it came with hashbrowns and biscuits the size of your fist balled up. The waitress Lisa is who you must ask for because she will take care of you. On 2/28/10 I ordered the chicken fried steak and man was it slammin. This round I ordered it will grits and corned beef hash and what a treat it was. Lisa looked out for... read more

Mecca Restaurant is only not kid friendly because service is slow. Don't come here if you're expecting fast service. Don't come here if you're expecting health food. Don't come here if you're expecting a quiet atmosphere. Don't come here if you're expecting to have plenty of space between you and other patrons. Do come here if you want great breakfast. Do come here if you want a cinnamon roll the size of your face with a taste that can't be beat. Do come here during their very limited hours because you don't want to miss thi... read more

Maybe Im a little bit partial, but if you happen to be out and about in Dallas and looking for some good home cookin check out the Mecca. My daddy has been taking me here for years and his dad took him there before that and it hasnt changed. The restaurant is in an old house that stands out from every other building that surrounds it. Inside, the walls are filled with treasures and momentos that chronicle Dallas history and local celebrities. The food, especially the desserts, is wonderful. Service is great and always friendl... read more
