This coffee shop's truck-stop flavor hails from decades ago when Harry Hines was the main highway north. Diners feel as if James Dean might walk through the door at any time. Dallas journalists, lawyers, businessmen, celebrities and politicians drop in to partake of huge breakfasts and "blue plate" style lunches. Photographs of long-time customers and eclectic memorabilia adorn the walls. It's busy, loud and the food is excellent. For breakfast try the home-style chicken fried steak and eggs with hash browns, large, buttery ... read more

Favorite comfort food dive Mecca is a Dallas food landmark!! The menu is good old fashioned comfort food. If you come in early enough you can get a blue plate sized (like 8 inches, not little) steaming hot cinnamon roll that will put a smile on your face and fat on you butt, for about $4. The average ticket for my husband and me is about $20 with drinks, entree, and a split roll.
Mecca Restaurant is only not kid friendly because service is slow. Don't come here if you're expecting fast service. Don't come here if you're expecting health food. Don't come here if you're expecting a quiet atmosphere. Don't come here if you're expecting to have plenty of space between you and other patrons. Do come here if you want great breakfast. Do come here if you want a cinnamon roll the size of your face with a taste that can't be beat. Do come here during their very limited hours because you don't want to miss thi... read more
Mecca Restaurant is like stepping back in time. This place feels just like an old diner. It's been in Dallas forever and has the best comfort foods that you will find. The chicken fried chicken is to die for as well as their sides which are made with that old school love. Food tastes like my grandma made it.
Mecca Restaurant is like eating at home You know that you are entering a bit of Dallas history when you go into Mecca. The servers (all female) call you "honey" and treat you as if you were guests in their home. After you place your order you can keep busy looking at the many photos on the wall, some of them containing famous people from the entertainment world. The food is plentiful, served hot and tasty. Prices are very reasonable. I recommend Mecca to anyone who enjoys good ol' home cooking and Texas hospitality.
Being relatively new to Dallas, Im always in search of the authentic -- the anti-chain. The Mecca is one of those places. I had a late breakfast/early lunch (Im not sure brunch is the right term for a down-home place like Mecca). The service was sweet and the food served hot and fresh. All the basics youd expect from an authentic place like The Mecca: country fried steak, grits, eggs, etc. The decor is truck-stop chic and the food tasty.

A friend dragged me here because it was "the best breakfast in Dallas." Ahh, not so! Edible, standard fare, but nothing spectacular. Not worth the trip back, in my opinion.

Tried the new Mecca in my neighborhood and was somewhat disappointed. The menu was similar to the original, but missing the breakfast ham steak I loved that covered the plate. It was a bit pricey too with most all meals at \$10 and \$3 for a milk. They were pushing a \$5 cinnamon roll as a highlight, but I dont even remember there being one before.Since it was dinner we ordered the Ham and Beans bowl dinner for \$6.99 and Liver and Onions for \$9.99. But when the bill came the Ham and Beans bowl was \$9.99.The young waiter t... read more
