About this business

Maudie's Cafe had a couple of generations of history and featured home style cooking by the time Joe first met Maudie Hamilton Wilson. Maudie served home cookin to the Austin politicos, families, neighborhoods, and O'Henry students. Started in 1954, Maudie's Cafe was 810 sq ft of yum - serving biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, and cold beers. Love their Lite Power bowl. But.. I added 'small' guac on the side. The small guac was $3 and the size of it was ridiculous. They should have charged $1 for it. I probably had like 1/4 cup of the dip in the bowl. I took a picture of it with a quarter besides it for the size comparison.

We have lived in Austin for 20 years, and there are lots of great places to eat. Maudie's remains one of our favorites for good food, affordable prices, great service and (for the Triangle location), a playground for the kids. Can't beat it. Go now!

Good portions, good prices, and good selection for the most part - though I do wish there were more low-calorie options.

I had lunch there. The Regular Dinner and sopapillas for dessert! The taco with pulled chicken was so delicious! I could have eaten about 5!!! The sopapillas are as close as I have eaten to Pancho's just bigger. Delicious! The hot sauce is def homemade and medium spicy just like I like it with the chips thick enough to spoon salsa. I hate thin chips! The food was very hot and freshly made. When I ordered I couldn't decide if I wanted the cauldo but after eating my meal I just had to take an order of soup to go! I ate it for ... read more
