Matsuhisa

4.3

About this business

Do not even drive by without confirmed reservations, this is the most popular Japanese eatery in town. It is considered by many to be the best sushi place in the US, and the best restaurant in the greater city of Los Angeles. Everything is fresh, delicious and very expensive, after all it is the workmanship of Nobu Matsuhisa. Rub elbows with the rich and famous, but leave your autograph book at home.

Try the tuna steak!!! – The reason why people have rated this restaurant 5 and under is because they only ate sushi! Try out the better at the omakase room! Most people don't even know this room exsists. After the omakase room, you'll definitely rate this restaurant higher!

Perfect!!! – The very first time I dined at Matsuhisa was back in 1997. Since then, I went back numerous times. If you don't like crowded place, then you might not be so fond of this place. I highly recommend their cold house sake, which taste very smooth, but it's the whole package. You'll know what I mean when you order. It could get a bit pricey if you are digging in for those special dish, but it is truly worth every penny. Offer a bottle of cold beer to your chef...just a nice, friendly gesture. Enjoy!

Wow – This place is unbelievable. I have ate at all the great sushirestaurants and this one tops them all by far. Just be prepared to drop a pretty penny or two

Black Cod w/ Miso - YES!!! – We've been avoiding this place - but finally gave it a try - and it was every bit as good as the positive ratings give it. I've had better toro (but that varies everywhere) - but the seared tuna salad to start, and the black cod!!, and the sweet shrimp, and the black cod, and the uni, and oh, did I mention the black cod with miso - melt in your mouth!! Just wonderful. The service was great - and the atmosphere - but those shadows on the wall are a little bit spooky, aren't they?

sushi worth the attitude? – Sushi chefs with an attitude problem. The sushi is very good but there are plenty of restaurants in LA with great tasting fresh sushi without the inflated price and the inconvenience of waiting only to be treated poorly. Note to sushi chefs: keep in mind that you are nothing more than a mediocre sushi chef so enough with the attitude.

class act! – Wendy and I have enjoyed Sushi and Sashimi all over the world, always trying to match the finest Japanese restaurants of San Francisco. Matsuhisa is as fine as they come. The highest quality of sashimi, and a willingness to prepare dishes not on the menu. Also, desserts at Matsuhisa are unique and fabulous. Not a cheap meal, but worth every penny for those of us who enjoy the best.

Bustling and good – Had a really good time here. I love that, though the food is extremely good and the chef is reknown, it's not a food chapel--it's loud, it's crazy busy, and some terrific food comes out of the kitchen. The sushi chefs are having a good time---if I get to eat here again, I'll definitely sit at the sushi bar. But, our omakase menus were stunningly done. A surprising standout was the hot chocolate cake (which I usually roll my eyes at) served with green tea ice cream. A complete surprise, yet one of the best... read more

SELECTION AT A PRICE – Always the best palce in town for a huge selection of sushi delicacies and nuvo fru fru dishes... but the cost is absurd and the service only passable. The freshness is occasionally suspect but usually good.

Always good – I've been going to this joint forever and it's always good. I try other places but i always end up coming back to nobu's la cienega location every time. Aside from the usual sushi and sashimi, black cod w/ miso is yummy too.
