One of the charms of the bar is the descent. You need to take the stairs down to garden-level, getting that feeling you are sneaking into some dark joint for a secret meeting. Exposed brick walls and a big fireplace greet you upon entrance. Order a white wine sangria while snacking on appetizers that are far better than you'd find at your local bar. In this small space, it's hard to imagine there would be room for a group, but if you call ahead, there is a lounge in the back that can accommodate up to 15.

we go to Matisse two night in a row and we had Khrystynka for waitress! The better service i never had! great smile!!!

Great neighborhood tavern. The atmosphere was really warm and comfortable. Food and drink was excellent. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Cute neighborhood bar with down to earth people. Great appetizers- the cheese plate in particular. So great to find a place around here that's not at all pretentious!
