Choose Agent carefully – I had a similar experience with Marye Co. My agent, Andy, didn't help me find a neighborhood or house - especially unhelpful for a newcomer to Austin. In fact, he was out of contact for days while I looked up listings online. I've bought properties in other cities and the agents remain in contact because they're building their "leads" database, but after I bought my house in Austin, I never heard from Andy or Marye again.
Lacking in service – I chose Marye based on a referral when I moved to Austin. The agent did not help me find a neighborhood that suited my needs. He offered no recommendations or advice - which was critical to me as a newcomer. I ended up doing all the research on my own over the Web. By the time I found a house, the agent just showed up to close the deal and collect his commission check. Never heard from him again.
