It is summer in Chicago, but you do not want to go into a drug store to buy any old ice cream, you want the real thing. If this is the case, make a trip to Bucktown and visit Margie's. Since 1921, Margie's has been making its own candy and ice cream, and it still uses only the best ingredients to produce the best product in Chicago. Family owned for generations, this spot has withstood the brutal ups-and-downs of this neighborhood for over 70 years. Well worth a visit, even for the most discriminating sweet tooth.

Good, wholesome ice cream sundaes with homemade toppings for almost 100 years! A must stop for anyone visiting the city.
7/30/15 ... took my 90 yr. old mom there today to have ice cream for dinner, ;) It's nice that one can still go somewhere that actually has a history and looks like an original fashioned ice cream parlor ( that's because it is ) She had fun.enjoying her Chocolate Syrup Sundae,and feeling young at heart . I had a Hot Fudge Banana Split( with double hot fudge) and it was just dandy. The service was excellent and super friendly. Our desserts were yummy.. We both left very happy. Can't ask for more than that.
Hands down the best ice cream shop in the city! Their hot fudge is amazing, not sickly sweet with that slight bitter edge that makes a good hot fudge. The decor is old school, and watch out for the long lines!
