Think long and hard before going to the ER at UPMC Altoona. Expect to be in the ER at least 2 days. Expect to be in a police state. Expect your belongings to be gone through. Make sure you take someone with you because the nurses have to many patients to take care of you. I would recommend ANY other hospital. The staff is wonderful but that doesn't make up for the fact that there just isn't enough of them to do their job.

It's a sad day when women in the community cannot get an ultrasound. Having irregular bleeding after a miscarriage was not considered urgent and I was told it would be a minimum of $1,000 for an ultrasound. $500 that needed to be paid upfront. Just disgusting.

UPMC doctors can be out-of-date. Or worse, prescribed two medications at the same time that my new specialist told me would have given me a heart attack. UPMC is just out to get as much money as they can earn. This while paying employees very poorly. Don’t believe the HYPE!
