Real Italian American Food and Generous portions – An Italian Restaurant to end all arguments in South Florida. You feel like your at the guy's house eatin his family recipes passed down for generations. The best, take it from a North Jersey Italian-American who has ate at Italian restaurants in North Jersey, Arthur Ave in the Bronx, Brooklyn, All over Manhattan, North End in Boston, etc. This place is phenomenal, and like people have been saying, you can't alter the dish or ask for substitutes, but think about it ....when y... read more

Too expensive. $27 spaghetti and meatball not worth it. – The waitstaff is trained to relentlessly badger you to order more food and more "extras". Our waitress asked us SIX TIMES if we wanted an appetizer. Each time I said no , and still the waitress insists " let me order the appetizers for you. When I ordered my meal the waitress said, "no don't order that, order something special". Excuse me, but I did not ask for your opinion, just take the damn order.. My dining partner requested a little more red sauce with her pasta ... read more

Homey ambience and home-style Italian cooking are comfortable and comforting. – In Short The spirit of a homey Italian osteria inhabits this spare, square space. Decor is limited to colorful prints on the walls, a display case in back and racks full of dried pasta, canned tomatoes and big tins of olive oil. The aromatic smells wafting out of the kitchen and the satisfied sighs of diners combine to create a feeling of warmth that all the expensive design tricks in the world can't surpass.

Great food Excellent Service – As a longterm patron of Macalusos and a New Yorker, I take issue with the critical reviews. Most of the complaints center on customers not being able to re-write the menu at their own whim. These are family recipies that are tried and true. The chef and owner has a strong sense of family and tradition and continues what they have successfully accomplished in their Staten Island eatery for generations. The food is fresh and delicious and served by a friendly, courteous and professional staff. I ... read more

A taste of Tradition! – Don't believe any of the negative reviews you read! This is one the classiest and delicous restaurants in SOBE with the outmost respect to tradition that is often missing or forgotten about in this world, just to make an extra buck. People feel threatened when they are faced with unique or unconventional beliefs or ways..but anyone with fine taste buds and honor for good old tradition and authentic experience will appreciate this place. PS: Try the meatballs! ive been dreaming of them ever since...

Snobby, over-hyped, over-priced – From the minute you sit down, the arrogant nonsense about the restaurant's "philosophy" and its "authentic" rules begins. And how everything is made "fresh to order from the freshest ingredients". So then why bring out the basket of store bought pasta in a box? Where's the fresh-made pasta, Trendy Restaurant?? Fine, trick me with your pretentious banter, but can you justifiy your high prices? NO WAY! $28 for the WORST linguini with clams I ever had. No whole clams, just bitter minced bits. An... read more

Left before trying a bite – At arrival, the following non-exhaustive "Commandments" for Macawhatevers are given: if you have food allergies, "eat somewhere else;" the Chef/Owner only prepares a dish one way, don't dare request anything else; no salad dressing on the side, "don't even ask;" and he stands by his waitstaff in the event of a problem, don't consider complaining. Frankly, I am not a picky eater (I have probably sent something back for not being right twice in my life); I don't have any food allergies; I would neve... read more
