This is a festive restaurant, well loved for many years by neighborhood patrons. The restaurant has a delightful rooftop terrace for alfresco dining. The dining room has the look and feel of a cozy cafe. The decor is simple, with white walls, white tablecloths and gilt-framed paintings. Blending Spanish, Mexican and Tex-Mex traditions, the menu is strong on fajitas and grilled entrees. Classic paellas and the marinated pork dishes are also excellent.

Best Mexican fare in the area There's not much Mexican food to be had in DC (in my experience), but this is the best I've had. It's a very large space, and I've generally had good luck there with large groups at lunch time. Be prepared to wait upwards of an hour for a table on a summer weekend evening.
make reservations This place is large but still manages to fill up because the food is delicious! It's not just Mexican food either; my group all had more Cuban-inspired dishes. We also had mojitos and a pitcher of margaritas and they were good.
Pretty Good Mexican This places makes pretty good Mexican food, nothing like you can get in California, but good and fresh. Their portions are large and tasty. The wait can be horrendous at times but try their margaritas while you're waiting. They are excellent. They offer every one a beeper so that can notify you when your table is ready -- it's that crowded. They also have good chips and salsa. They have lots of outdoor seating and I recommend it when the weather is nice. PROS: CONS: Wait
Kids and I stopped for Sunday brunch at Lauriol Plaza in the Dupont neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Steak and eggs for me - a 4 ounce filet mignon and two fried eggs with O'Brien potatoes and a fruit garnish; French Toast for my twins - 4 slices of French bread served with maple syrup and fruit garnish; and an American breakfast for my oldest daughter - two eggs and bacon served with O'Brien potatoes and a fruit garnish. Orange juice, coffee, and water as our beverage. Tortilla chips and salsa served prior to the meal. Vilm... read more
