La Verdad

About this business

Established in 2006, Chefs Ken Oringer and Michael Ginore believed that authentic Mexican cuisine would be very well received by Boston foodies. They teamed with the Lyons Group and created a power house team to present authentic Mexican fare in a lighter, cleaner presentation than we have grown accustom to in the North East. There vision is proudly presented as La Verdad. We are located very close to Fenway Park.

Not Authentic, Not Worth the Money, No Flavor – I had heard a great deal about La Verdad since it opened, but was very disappointed after finally paying a visit. The restaurant was fairly empty when my dinner companion and I arrived, roughly 5:00 on a Saturday. There was no host/hostess, and it took several minutes before somebody finally came to seat us. We were seated at a table near the bar, and a group of 4-5 employees were all socializing, swearing and not working right behind us for the bulk of our meal. This is unacce... read more

Good food but can be very deceiving – Went over the weekend and ordered a regular FROZEN margarita and the waitress came back with a regular margarita, shaken. When I told her that's not what I ordered she just matter of factly told us they don't serve regular margaritas frozen (you think she would've said that when we ordered it!) We then ordered the mixed grill plate (skirt steak, carnitas, chorizo and habanero sausage) to share which said came with "seasoned mashed plantains" When the dish arrived, the white pile of mush ... read more

Ken Oringer-led taqueria and bar fills the Lansdowne St. space previously held by the Tiki Room. – A traditional taqueria at the entrance caters to the postgame takeout crowd while the main room, decorated with Mexican folk art, wrestling masks, and tequila bottles, contains lots of seating and TVs for those who couldn't score a ticket. Patrons choose among a dozen-plus varieties of tacos, including fish, tongue, tripe and turkey. Other items include grilled corn (ever-popular at Oringer's Toro tapas bar) and homemade tortil... read more

rude bar tenders & meathead bouncers – The bar tenders and bouncers are rude, provide poor service and are always on power trips. For such a boring bar and average food they all seem to think they are a big deal. I have been her a couple of times and it always ends in the bar tender saying something rude to a paying customer. DONT GO HERE! there are lots of better options within five feet!!!!

good times – Went to Laverdad Last night and the food was great. I got the mixed gril plate which was steak pork and two house made sausages and my wife got the fish tacos. They were pretty busy and intil the game started after that the place cleared out. Our server was very nice and took care of us even know she was very busy. The drinks were right on and the margeritas were amazing

Bland, loud, slow. Good 'ritas. – I'll give them a slight break as I was there before a ballgame. So, yes, the service was painfully slow--they desperately needed another bartender--but it was really crowded and would be clearing out soon. No break given for the bland food. This is supposed to be Mexican, after all. The carnitas was tender and tasty but with only the tiniest hint of a Mexican marinade and no hint of seasoning. The carne asada tasted simply like plain beef. Salsa was even more bland-tasted like it was made fr... read more

They DO accept reservations.... – When I sat in La Verdad last weekend, I knew I would write a citysearch review. Before I sat down to type mine up, I read the other reviews to see if other people had similar experiences to me. Apparently not. but I feel like mine is worth mentioning anyway. Friday afternoon, I called La Verdad to make reservations for a party of six that evening. Whoever answered the phone told me, "Baby, we don't take reservations." I was surprised. #1 Because she called me baby. #2 Because their website i... read more

Great Mexican but Closed on Sundays? – My wife and I love this place, fantastic atmosphere, great authentic food and top notch margaritas. The bartender we had last Saturday (Feb 16th) she was great too, super friendly and very helpful with recommendations and she made a mean margarita. We loved it so much that last night (Sunday, Feb 25, 2008) we went back for more. Actually we brought friends, a group of us drove down to Boston to eat here. They hadn't been but really wanted to go after we raved about it and after they rea... read more

Great spot before the Game – I went to La Verdad before the playoff game on Friday for a few drinks with three friends. The bar was busy, but we were still able to get drinks, it just took a few minutes. The margaritas were very good, not too sure what was in them, but delicious just the same. There was one seat open so we all congregated around there on the right side of the bar. We ordered chips and guacamole to have something to nibble on while we drank, a very good choice - very fresh and the chips were very thick not th... read more
