The ramen that they have in here are really tasty and hearty. There are a lot of things in there too, so every penny spent is worth every slurp and gulp.
Come Get Your Cow Tongue! – My friends and I stopped by here one night just for some appetizers. Upon seeing they were serving cow tongue on a hot rock, we had to order it. The cow tongue was brought out in raw thin slices. The concept is to cook your meat on a super hot rock they bring out with it. The tongue tasted just like roast beef. The experience was really memorable and great for those who like a little excitement in their food.
Favorite sushi place in Houston – I have been to almost every sushi restaurant in Houston (Tokyohana, Miyako, AKA, Kata Robata, Azuma, Zushi, Oiishi, Sake, Osaka, Uptown, Hokkaido, Japaneiro's, etc.) and this is by far the best sushi restaurant in Houston for SUSHI !! Not Good – Started out great wht the Kaneyama roll then it all went down hill. Ordered a Spider roll and it was fake Krab - ugh. The Terriaki and Tempura was tasteless - definately not worth the money
Decent sushi, Below average entrees – Kaneyama is a nice place to quell that hankering for some sushi, but don't expect it to be up to the standards of Azuma or Musashino (Austinites know what I'm talking about). The fish is surprisingly fresh and tasty, but the sushi rice isn't up to par to help bring out the best flavor of the fish in the nigiri sushi. Good consistant food – We go to Kaneyama about twice a month for the past 6 or so years. We enjoy the food and most of the wait staff knows us. 29 out of 30 times the fish is great...occasionally the fish isn't the best and we leave it. The udon and rice bowls are great. Very reasonable in price, extremely fresh, great atmosphere, and creative sushi combos – Kaneyama's is by far my favorite sushi spot in Houston. When I lived in Austin, I missed it terribly. The fish is so fresh that I am a loyal patron for life. Its very hard to get me to go anywhere but Kaneyamas. The Dragon Roll and Nemo Roll are to DIE FOR! They have good happy hour deals on drinks. The service is pretty good as well. Out of places I have tried in Houston and Austin, Kaneyamas always has the best salmon. Hands down.
