Fun Date Spot in the Lounge – Went with a girlfriend on Friday night, and sat in the lounge upstairs without having a reservation or wait. That was nice. Drinks are typical (Asian inspired martinis, etc), and the food is h it/miss: lobster spring rolls (boring, I'd rather have a burrito), tuna flatbread (one of the highlights of the night! must get), crab cakes (typical), eight samurai tartare (8 different kinds of tartare that come on 8 appetizer spoons; the octopus and scallop was good, but the ebi was just gross. like mus... read more
Not entirely on target foodwise, but a really cool atmosphere... – I've read that some people have a "been there, done that" philosophy around the whole high style Asian fusion thing, but I really dig it. The decor, the hip music, the attractive staff were all in abundance, and really made me glad we had chosen it for dinner. That being said, I think the food quality at Japonais did not meet the expectations that places like Buddakan and Morimoto have set in my mind. "The Rock", a signature dish at Japonais was excellent, th... read more
I love this one almost as much as the one in Chicago!!! – I used to go to the Chicago location all the time and met the best lounge manager ever!! Roger!!! The drinks are great (try the peach sangria) and the crabcakes!! The lobster spring rolls are pretty darn good also!! The place is huge and the lounge is a great place to hang out. They did just open about a month or so ago, so staff might not be as knowledgeable, but give them time...sure you'll love it!!
Tasty Food, Nice Atmosphere – Came here last night with a friend for my birthday. Made reservations 2 weeks in advance, our table was waiting for us when we arrived 10 mins early for our 9pm reservation. we started with the spicy octopus roll and soft shell crab roll. Both were good but the spicy octopus roll was unrolling. The soft shell crab roll was not stuffed with the crab but instead they put some crab in the roll and half of the crab on top of the rolls. Not a bad idea since it would be hard to stuff a huge roll in yo... read more
High design and high-class Japanese fusion feed a Murray Hill crowd hungry for the next big thing. – The Scene The stylish restaurant's undulating wood ceiling beams mimic the sea and point to the sushi bar. All other elements--deep reds, rich golds, a polished wall of mirrors--indicate that this is a restaurant in which shapely, attractive form reigns supreme. A split-level design separates the bustling front bar from the dining room a few steps up; the more romantic tiered lounge has its own bar. Ladies dressed to kill dwa... read more
Good sushi and lounge spot in gramercy – Definitely good sush and great bar lounge thing going on. Its a great addition to the area. I'm hoping they keep up the good atmosphere and quality of the food.
Great place for sushi and cocktails – Newest and best sushi in the area (now 10 sushi restaurants in the Union Square area). Spicy Mono roll is a must. It sure beats being cramped downstairs at Bond St Sushi!
kani nigeri, hawiian himachi and peach sangria – I didn't eat inthe restaurant , but I did louge out in the louge for an evening and it was better than what I expected. The food was delicious and have brought new customers since then and everyone else loved it too. Especially the great service provided by the lounge. I have to say, the lounge manager Gino was my best experience. He really took the time out to make us feel special and conversate with us even though is was very busy and he made sure our food came out in time. ... read more
ok food great experience – We ordered the chef's special appetizer ($26) and american equivalent of Kobe Beef ($58 for 10oz ribeye). They were both ok but expected a little bit more vow for the money. Wines by the glass are definitely overpriced. 2003 Gigondas Cote du Rhone at $14 seems a bit much. Service and ambience are great.
