Terrific atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and probably the best railroad-theme hotel and restaurant in the country, loaded with railroad artifacts and artwork from its Great Northern Railway heritage. The downsides? Overpriced food, certain selections of which are poorly prepared. The pricey pork loin dinner entree was skimpy, tough, and so dry as to be almost inedible. RecommendedI took a birthday trip by train to Essex, Montana in May of 2005. Whitefish, Montana is the last station stop before Essex and when I saw its Main Street from the diner window of the train I pledged to return. I returned in July and by October Bought my retirement home here. Well, since it doesn't look like I'm going to retire any time soon, I visit it a lot and I've never regretted the decision.
Very neat gem in the trees. Old railcars are hotel rooms. Stop and see even if you aren't gonna stay
Perfectly placed between East and West Glacier. Loved staying in the caboose! The food at the Inn was delicious and portion sizes were generous. Would definitely stay here again!
We went there on our honeymoon and they treated us so well. They even left us a little gift and a card to congratulate on our marriage. That was in our room Monday afternoon. I would highly recommend this place for a getaway.
