Better than expected – This place looks a little dive-y from the outside, but it's much warmer inside than it appears. They boast a number of vegan options, but they're essentially vegetarian options and you specify "no dairy." The veggie fajitas come in a tasty sauce and ample proportions, however a chunk of meat was discovered. I had the tostada salad which was pretty standard. Good guacamole. It's a loud atmosphere and large groups seemed to be well accomodated.
Not worth it – I have given this place many chances in the hopes the food, service and atmosphere would be better. But I will not go back. It is so loud (good for loud kids) and the food was something I could plop out of a can myself at home. They need some serious upgrading.
Daily specials – Great restaurant, good food, tired of the same old burrito try the daily specials they rock. I had the stuffed chicken awesome. Good house margaritas, even better Caddie margaritas.
You enter, surroundings are shabby. Watered down salsa, prices have gone up, WAY UP for the quality of the food received. We were served on a Friday night by a girl who would not look us in the face and didn't wait for our answers as to the quality of the food as she walked to the next table. Service was terrible!! Food was bland, overpriced and low quality. Our server obviously didn't want us back there, which is a shame. My partner and I are both servers and we tip very well. If you want poor quality food and terrible serv... read more
At least once a week. – The Iron Horse is The best mexican resturant in Portland. Thier salsa is always fresh, pluse it comes in mild, med., and HOT! I have tried most of the items on the menu and found each to be excellent! Carna Asada burrito is my fave. The cadilac ritas rule.Just writing this review is making me hungry, as well as thirsty. If you have never tried I.H. you should ignore all the negative reviews and check it for yourself. Forming your own opinion is always the best way to go.
Neighborhoodies come for always-dependable Mexican food and fresh-fruit margaritas. – In Short Sellwood-Westmoreland locals come in droves to sip margaritas and enjoy hearty servings of southwestern Mexican grub in a brisk, friendly place with a comfortable, neighborhood feel. Salsa is chunky and comes in hot, medium and mild. The popular California enchilada comes with shrimp or chicken, cheese and avocado sauce. Other good bets include fajitas, tamales and chimichangas. Meatless dishes also are offered, including the veggi... read more
No Flavor! – I had dinner delivered by Delivered Dish, which is an excellent service; too bad it doesn't make up for the bad food. We started with the Tortilla soup, which should be called flavored water; the broth tasted like Swanson. For a main I got the chimichanga with shredded beef, refried beans and rice. Disgusting! The beef tasted like leather, the beans were bland as was the rice. The tortilla was soggy, not crisp like it should be. It's not just because it was delivered; I've had take out from Romos on 50th and Haw... read more
Excellent Fish Tacos – This is the best that I can find in the Area! Try this place out, you'll love it. Food cannot be beat. Dining area could be a bit better, but what the hell, you're in a Mexican food place...Great service.
That was our last visit – We had tried Iron Horse a couple of years ago and it was mediocre at best. But we went a few days before Christmas and...never again! It was freezing cold in the dining room, the food was absolutely horrible - I don't care how low the prices are, it's no excuse to serve that slop to paying customers. Beware...
