Terrible food + bad service = good conversation – My wife and I typically frequent restaurants where we know that the food and service are great. For some reason, though, we made our way to Iron Horse and were pleasantly surprised by the outcome. For starters, you walk through some sort of portal when you walk in that transfers you to a truck stop that tries to serve mexican food. There were quite a few confused people there. For instance, the hostess wasn't quite sure where she was (nor was I). Then, we had three wait staff... read more

SERIOUS hygiene breach! – wow, i thought the bland, low-quality food, weak drinks, hideous decor, indifferent waitstaff, and gusts of wind coming through the front door every time it opened were enough to wither my appaetite... but then i watched two separate servers scooping tortilla chips into baskets to be served - with their BARE HANDS. that did it! avoid this trainwreck of a health hazard at all costs. UGH.

Not very good at all – Go down the street to San Felipe. It's WAY better. I was mad I tried this place. The food was plain and lacked spice and flavor. Not the best service either.

Better than expected – This place looks a little dive-y from the outside, but it's much warmer inside than it appears. They boast a number of vegan options, but they're essentially vegetarian options and you specify "no dairy." The veggie fajitas come in a tasty sauce and ample proportions, however a chunk of meat was discovered. I had the tostada salad which was pretty standard. Good guacamole. It's a loud atmosphere and large groups seemed to be well accomodated.

Not worth it – I have given this place many chances in the hopes the food, service and atmosphere would be better. But I will not go back. It is so loud (good for loud kids) and the food was something I could plop out of a can myself at home. They need some serious upgrading.

Daily specials – Great restaurant, good food, tired of the same old burrito try the daily specials they rock. I had the stuffed chicken awesome. Good house margaritas, even better Caddie margaritas.

You enter, surroundings are shabby. Watered down salsa, prices have gone up, WAY UP for the quality of the food received. We were served on a Friday night by a girl who would not look us in the face and didn't wait for our answers as to the quality of the food as she walked to the next table. Service was terrible!! Food was bland, overpriced and low quality. Our server obviously didn't want us back there, which is a shame. My partner and I are both servers and we tip very well. If you want poor quality food and terrible serv... read more

At least once a week. – The Iron Horse is The best mexican resturant in Portland. Thier salsa is always fresh, pluse it comes in mild, med., and HOT! I have tried most of the items on the menu and found each to be excellent! Carna Asada burrito is my fave. The cadilac ritas rule.Just writing this review is making me hungry, as well as thirsty. If you have never tried I.H. you should ignore all the negative reviews and check it for yourself. Forming your own opinion is always the best way to go.
