okay not great – I don't know how this joint got put on the top ten list!! Come on Portland!! Where are our standards??!! Friendly service good with kids. Bland Boring food!! Will not go back. Just okay for me. If I'm gonna spend $12-$15 per plate I expect better than this.
Sub-par in every way – The food is standard American Mexican restaurant fare, with little actual Mexican influence. You can get better, more authentic food from any number of restaurants and carts today.
How does this place get ranked so well – I guess people only want to say good things unless they have a truly bad experience, but how helpful is that? Iron horse isn't terrible, it isn't even bad per se - but if i'm paying for anything, "not bad" isn't what i'm paying for. With so many good choices, why settle for this Service was slow and with an attitude. Food was mediocre, on the bland side, overcooked, oily, and didn't taste fresh
An old favorite – Well contrary to some other reviers, I still love this place. Every restaurant has it's up's and downs let's not be too severe. Some of my old favorites still rock. Try the Chicken Pesto Quesodilla and be happy!
Pathetic and kinda sad – We have been going there for years but I won't go back. The food was never fantastic but the prices were fair and it was a convenient fast meal. Iron Horse restaurant has taken a recent turn for the worse. The service is poor, the drinks are watered-down, the "pints" of beer are small, the prices just went up, and the food portions went down. On our last visit we had to listen to a vacuum cleaner for 20 minutes, our drinks were late, the food was late, and there was only 5 tables seated. The servers ... read more
The best mexican has become some of the worse – We used to come to the Ironhorse weekly for years! When we moved to a new neighborhood, we still came back about every 6 weeks. What a change! Our last visit was awful. This place used to have the best mexican food around, but everything from the menu to the taste to the service has dived! We ordered Enchilada California, a dish I have eaten for years. The sauce was awful and they quit adding beans and rice on the side, but kept the price the same. The service was slow but beyo... read more
Terrible food + bad service = good conversation – My wife and I typically frequent restaurants where we know that the food and service are great. For some reason, though, we made our way to Iron Horse and were pleasantly surprised by the outcome. For starters, you walk through some sort of portal when you walk in that transfers you to a truck stop that tries to serve mexican food. There were quite a few confused people there. For instance, the hostess wasn't quite sure where she was (nor was I). Then, we had three wait staff... read more
SERIOUS hygiene breach! – wow, i thought the bland, low-quality food, weak drinks, hideous decor, indifferent waitstaff, and gusts of wind coming through the front door every time it opened were enough to wither my appaetite... but then i watched two separate servers scooping tortilla chips into baskets to be served - with their BARE HANDS. that did it! avoid this trainwreck of a health hazard at all costs. UGH.
Not very good at all – Go down the street to San Felipe. It's WAY better. I was mad I tried this place. The food was plain and lacked spice and flavor. Not the best service either.
