I have driven by the prison---always wondered what it would be like to work here
Definitely a Historic place!! First prison west of the Mississippi River!! I worked at the John Benet Center (medium security) supervising inmates in the kitchen for 9 years. There is a lot of things that can be accomplished by using this part of History! Using the tour to provide food for the local Pantry is wonderful!
My father was the Warden there from 1968 to 1978. Grew up playing in front of the prison. Never thought anything of it. It was just normal to me. I so would like to see the other side of that wall. To see the places my father walked that I couldn't.
It's an excellent & interesting place to see...I lived in Ft. Madison very briefly. I used to enjoy walking around the Prison area... taking photos.
