It was a great place to "Visit" this time. I always wanted to go back and see it since I heard their was tours. Brings back memories and also a sense of pride that I made it. To me it let my wife of 15 yrs (Married less than a Year after I got out) see and maybe feel what I went through to maybe understand me better. Just wish the John Bennet medium security was open also.
It was one of if not the best tour I ever went on. Mike was an amazing guide and I love learning his perspective on inside of those walls. I was just in awe taking it all in. Love to see the place preserved for future generations. I drove over 2 hours and it was absolutely worth it. Thank you!!
My family drove 3 1/2 hours to get here and all I can say Is it was absolutely worth going to, we had a great guide with a vast knowledge of the complex I was amazed how much we really were able to see when entering the prison, I could almost imagine what it would have really been like being there when there were actual inmates still incarcerated in the prison. Thanks for the opportunity to allow everyone into this place, I hope you guys keep these tours going!
Awesome facility, interesting tour, hope they can keep up with maintenance on this massive structure
Would love to go on this tour again! Highly recommended!!
We had two great tour guides! Thank you for showing us around
The tour was very interesting, it is a shame the buildings are falling into disrepair. I am hoping the Historic Restoration committee and the people of Fort Madison will realize the tourist draw they have in the city, that can only help all local business.
I was very impressed with the facility and the knowledge of our guides. Todd Ensminger recalled the history, and lore of the prison and recounted some of his personal experiences there with such reverence. I cannot say how much I appreciated the opportunity to experience the historic ISP buildings.
