UnityPoint Employees are NOT REQUIRED to have their prescriptions filled at Hy-Vee or UnityPoint. If your current pharmacy provides excellent care and service, ask them before you transfer. You are likely getting better healthcare at your local pharmacy than you will with Hy-Vee, and they may be able to work with you on price as well. It's sadly ironic that UnityPoint strives to provide excellent healthcare to patients yet expects employees to settle for less.
I have never sat in an ER waiting room for six hours. I was truly disappointed with the quality of service provided. Given my symptoms of heart related issues I would have thought it would have warranted a much faster visit. After six hours and not even put in a room yet I called my doctor who sent me to the ER to let them know. There were many others there in the same boat and had not been sitting there as long as me. Methodist needs to figure it out because a simple I’m sorry is not enough.

It is always a very tailored visit to your specific medical needs. Many questions are asked and the answers are listened to. This helps to create an insightful visit where trust between patient and doctor begins to build I would highly recommend Unity Point Health Des Moines AND my specific doctors to others. Choosing a doctor is one of the most important decisions that we make as patients and hopefully as informed patients. 😁
The level of care you'll receive at UnityPoint Health rivals no other Medical Center in Central Iowa. The John Stoddard Cancer Center is superb in taking care of their patients and treats everyone as equals. They treat you as an individual human being, not just another patient to get in, treat and out the door as fast as possible.
This hospital and it’s staff represent the BEST experience I’ve had at a hospital ever. I have just been there as a family member of a loved one receiving treatment but I cannot say enough about how awesome the care is. The doctors, nurses, and all staff are professional, personable, caring, kind, and just awesome. We have experience with cardiac (cath lab staff) and transplant staff and these are some really awesome people. Dr.Hembry by far is my favorite. He shows compassion to everything he does and every patient. He truly goes above and beyond and he strives really hard to figure out what is going on. If he doesn’t know he sends you to someone who does! He takes the time more than once a year to see you and look at all your health problems to see how your doing and if he can help in anyway. Had one of those "don't wanna do it but gotta do it" colonoscopies last week and visited the newish Endoscopy Clinic at Iowa Methodist for the first time. From Patient Registration to Recovery, I could not have had more professional, respectful, engaged and knowledgeable health care professionals. Shannon, Lynne, Nancy, Nichole, and--of course--Dr. Michael Page (sorry if I am forgetting anyone). Thanks for being there--we are so blessed with great health care in the Des Moines Metro!
