such awful service, that food is not worth it – I have been here quite a few times, each time hoping the service would get better. The food is only avereage, and extremely overpriced. Tasty, but SLOOOOOOOOW – My girlfriend and I went to India Oven on a Friday night. We wanted to catch dinner there and then go up the street to the Bagdad to see a movie at 7:30. We arrived at the resttaurant about 6:30 and were seated prmoptly. The service at the point was fair ad we felt attended to. User review by haveagomerchant – My first experience with India Oven was OK. Decent food, very slow service, but worth trying again. The second time we went back, we walked in and asked for a table for two. It was more crowded than I had previously seen it, but there were numerous tables still open. The hostess glanced around briefly and said, "You leave and come back in one hour, we busy." I left, but needless to say I didn't go back in an hour or ever.
Good Food but Bad Service – I first tried this place a few months back and love the food but the service was pretty bad which is why I havent returned. I was ignored for the first 5 minutes I was there, then I was offered a menu. I placed my order and was asked "Is that all you want?" Like I had ordered water or something. Long time fave – I have been going to India Oven for many years now and it has always been a favorite of mine. The food is excellent and the service is usually pretty good. I have read the other reviews and I too have had a long wait there once out of the many times I have gone there but I have never experienced particularly bad service. My friends that I take there usually love it too. It also feels authentic and not dressed up or over done. Focus is obviously on quality of food but the asthetics are pleasant.
Arrive early for better service – Service was much better than expected, after reading others' reviews of India Oven. We arrived about an hour after opening on a Friday night, and were seated immediately. Our order was taken as soon as we closed our menus, and the food arrived a short time later. Unpredictable but Delicious – I get regular cravings for the food at India Oven, but I agree with the other reviewers that often the service is very poor and the wait time to get your food too long. I always order an appetizer to tide me over. Try the fried cubes of homemade cheese, they are divine! When this place is on, they have wonderful food and good service. great food!! – loved the curries, eggplant, breads...all were amazing and very well-priced. stay away if you don't like caraway seeds. nice, understated atmosphere but a little too bright at night. service is sometimes too quiet.
Yummy home made food... – I have been to many Indian Restaurants in Portland, but this one is very different from others. This one has very good atmosphere, authentic home made food and excellent taste. Only problem is, if you order then you have to wait for long period. I will recommend this for every one who loves Indian food.
