Stay away this place – My experience was very similar to the other ones. Bad service, below average food, unstocked buffet, temperamental owner/chef that yells at her customers. Restrooms are smelly, dirty, brown/black toilets, broken and wet you know by what. No tissues, no soap...god knows how they're allowed to be in business. You'd think it'd be illegal elsewhere. Stay away for sure.
Avoid this place like a plague – I have had terrible experiences not once but twice (yeah, shame on me for going there the second time). I took my family for a lunch buffet and the whole experience was horrible: 1. The food is below average. There're many restaurants in town that have much better food and great dining experience 2. The cook comes out every now and then (the owner lady apparently) and yells at customers, who ask for the buffet to be restocked (since it's never stocked fully) 3. Very poor service 4. The restro... read more
Call it Shabby Owen ! – My family and friends traveled around 20 miles from Portland Airport with lots of expectation to relish the Indian food. The restaurant is centrally located and as nice interiors. Now comes the shock of our life as we entered the restroom for a wash. You will find restroom nice and clean even in the prisons or emerging countries. It smelled awfully bad all over the place and was very dark without much lighting. The food is not at all good. The buffet was out of Indian breads and curry. You request the... read more
My favorite restaurant! – I have been dining in this restaurant for the past five years, and its food is the best of any restaurant I've ever been to. The menu has all kinds of options, including some items for people who aren't interested in 'exotic' foods, as well as vegetarian options. The only small complaints I have are the building (which is fairly old; the bathrooms are in desperate need of a remodel) and language differences between the waitors and myself, which can make ordering somewhat difficult. But who knows, ma... read more
Editorial Review by Mary Morley – Hawthorne Indian restaurant is a little skimpy in atmosphere, but the classic dishes like naan, samosas, curries and masalas rarely disappoint.
Dinner took Over 2 Hours, and we ate Fast. – I do not recommend that anyone visit this resteraunt unless they have several hours and some extra cash to spend, are nearsighted, and will not need to use the restroom. My girlfriend and I arrived at 5:30 on Friday night. Two tables were seated, and we waited fifteen minutes for someone to come out of the kitchen and offer us a table. Twenty minutes later out order was taken. Fifty minutes later our food arrived. We ate, flagged the waitress down so we could pay, and finally left... read more
Patience is a virtue – After reading the other reviews I walked in to India Oven last night expecting a mediocre dining experience, but walked out completely satiated and wishing my little body was capable of consuming more than one helping of food. Having recently relocated to the area, I am so thrilled with the vegetarian options at most local eateries, but a bit disappointed with the flavor and quality of ethnic foods, so far. Last night's meal was very much an exception. True, the ambiance of the place is a bit lacking, ... read more
Consistent for Years! – Both the India Oven in Gresham and the branch in Portland are owned by the same folks. I have choosing to eat at both of these locations for approx. 8 years. The food is fresh, the great taste is consistent, and I highly recommend both places. Recently I noticed that they started charging for CHAI tea refills. Ok, I understand - prices go up. It is important for me to remember what the culture of a cuisine is before I judge the accommodations. I would highly recomment the lunch buffet!!!! (Sag Lamb an... read more
go there for lunch!! – I was shocked to see that all of the people who've reviewed this place didn't mention their fantastic lunch buffet. I eat at India Oven about once a week, but I NEVER go there for dinner. If you can make it there for lunch (between 11:30 and 2:30 I think) go that route. The price is right (around $7.50)... and you don't have to wait for your food! The service is still a little slow, but I've never gotten lip for asking for the check.
