great beer, decent atmosphere ,baaaaad service – i live in the neighborhood and was ecstatic to find out brewmaster christian ettinger was opening a pub just blocks from my house. his beers at laurelwood were always excellent. the special and seasonal beers were always right on. i walked into HUB and was immediately stuck by how noisy it was. i took a seat at the bar and waited, literally, 10 minutes to be asked what i would like to drink. it took another 5 minutes to get my beer.there were 4 servers behind the bar! i finish... read more

Best Burger in SE. Beer is yummy too – I was craving a burger and a beer after a long day and decided to try Hopworks. I went with six people total and because of the big crowds, was told it might be an hour. 30 minutes and a great beer sampler later, I ate one of the BEST BURGERS in town. You know how sometimes it's all about the bun? Will it fall apart? Can it hold juicy thick patty without getting too messy? Well, I tell you - they got it down. The onion bun was perfect. The medium rare option, was in fact medium rare (th... read more

Hopefully will grow into it's own – I've dined at Hopworks a couple of times. It's new, so I don't expect all of the kinks to be worked out yet, but hopefully they are working on them. The food is fine - not great. A little expensive but I'm willing to pay more for a place to get a beer that is this kid-friendly (like Laurelwood: overpriced but will go there to not feel bad about my kid being there with me). So far the service has been pretty choppy - long waits for refills and confusion about the menu, multiple people waiti... read more

great beer; lame atmosphere and food – It's really a shame: a great brewer decides to open his own place, takes his time developing recipes, building the buzz before opening, choosing a location, restoring the building "green," decorating it with bicycles, etc etc -- we really want to love this place. I wish it were The Brewpub in Portland, the one we show off to visitors and hang out at ourselves as much as possible. Maybe with some work it could become that. But it sure ain't yet. The sound ruins it, first of all. Why do s... read more

Great beer, great food, great values! – The beer here is fantastic, try the seven grain survival stout. The pizza is awesome, try the lunch special of a slice, salad and a beer for $8. Salads are great, apps are great. The owner is very nice, and may even come introduce himself to you. My husband and I have eaten here several times since they opened. It can be very busy, esp. during peak hours, so plan trip carefully. The building was built to be eco-friendly and the food and beers are organic. That in and of itself says a l... read more

Outstanding addition to SE Portland – My wife and I have visited Hopworks several times in the short time since it opened. Having had their beer at different pubs in Portland, I was anxious to try it at the source. We went opening day and despite the usual hiccups expected with a new, highly anticipated launch, we had a great time. Very cool place with lots of space and our lunch was outstanding. I had the sub and my wife had the steak sandwich. Both were great. I had the IPA and a DOA, while my wife thoroughly enjoyed a sur... read more

Beer ok.....Average Pizza – Menu is ultra simple, not many choices. All the Beer styles were very sweet. Even there most "hoppy" style of beer. It reminded me of a Classic German Beer makers attempt at making Northwest style Beers. We were'nt able to finsh our confusingly labeled taster tray. Parking was very difficult, goodluck. Inside building design kinda cool. Resturant dived with Bar on one side that does not allow and kids, even during the day. Also, happy hour specials only applied to bar side so if you have kids you'... read more
