Hockeytown Cafe is garish and gaudy, with the one of the brightest video screen and ticker scroll outside, along with a gigantic hockey puck and images of Wings legends. The inside is massive, memorabilia-choked and always crowded. The beer is cooled by a seven-inch-wide "ring of ice" and the food is more varied than the usual sports bar fare.

Not Your Average Sports Bar – Not your run-of-the-mill sports bar in any way. The food is in no way the usual bar food, and the drinks are reasonably priced. The atmosphere is second to none, esp. during the playoff run when the deck is open and the weather is warm. The HockeyTown Cafe is located steps away from the Fox, Ford Field, New Tiger Stadium, and shares the same building as Second City. The casinos are minutes away, as is the bridge to Windsor.
Good for a Theme Restaurant – We went to Hockeytown Cafe before a Red Wings game. The place was busy and we waited an hour for a table. The whole restaurant was extremely crowded. Once we were seated, service was good and friendly. The food was not exciting, but it wasn't bad either. I had a portobello mushroom "burger" which was pleasantly grilled but very basic. This is a good place to go before a game (or during one) if you're a hockey fan, but otherwise there are better choices than this theme restaurant.
A star in Detroit – I love hockey, so I will say that I love to watch the Wings here when I come to Detroit. The food is good, sometimes the service can be slow before games. But all in all, if you get to Detroit then give it a try, espically during a Red Wings hockey game. GO WINGS!
GO WINGS!!!!!! – I love Hockeytown Cafe!!! Being an avid fan of the DETROIT RED WINGS, I had to expierence Hockeytown Cafe, and it was fantastic. The food was great, the service was fast, and fun, and the whole decor thing is AWESOME!!!!!!! I would recommend Hockeytown Cafe to anyone, especially out of towners, to show them what a real hockey city is all about!!!!!!!!!
Is it worth it? – This is a great place if you can catch it on an off day but if there is a big sporting event going on, then forget it. The place gets overcrowded and parking in the area is expensive. Second City is usually a great show and there is a small dance club on the top floor that is fun.
low rate – Too bad this could be a nice place to visit and eat but, the service is horrible. I guess its because they are busy so they don't need your business. I give it until novelty wears off. Who runs this place? Is this their first restaurant?
Not Good. – Bad food. Bad atmosphere. Expensive drinks. Long lines. Get your hockey fix elsewhere.
Overrated – It could be a 5 by 5 room and serve zilch and still overzealous RW fans would vote it number one just because of the name. The upstairs/deck is a hellhole.
Celebrate the wings ! – Very sports minded place for the hockey fan to eat. Also a great place for any sports fan !
