Hockeytown Cafe is garish and gaudy, with the one of the brightest video screen and ticker scroll outside, along with a gigantic hockey puck and images of Wings legends. The inside is massive, memorabilia-choked and always crowded. The beer is cooled by a seven-inch-wide "ring of ice" and the food is more varied than the usual sports bar fare.

Best food around – Seems like most reviews here are several years old. I live close by, and go there weekly. The prices are moderate and the portions considerable. I love thier food and the service lately has been 4 star. Try it!
This place sucked. – Went there for the lunch special with my kids and they ran out at 2:00pm LOL! Waited for a waitress to finally come over and take our order after being seated for 10 minutes. Mean while staff appears to be mulling about doing nothing. After ordering, I was brought a beer that was not cold. I was going to ask for another, but the waitress never came back until our food was ready. I was thirsty. Pizza was greasy and hotdog was sub-par. Never again!
Poor planning + poor service – Hockeytown Cafe has a lot going for it: good location, loyal hockey fan base. But it seems to rest on its laurels and makes no attempt at providing good service. My friends & I went there for the Game 5 of the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs and were completely disappointed by the lack of planning and preparation for the event by Hockeytown Cafe. They were understaffed and overcrowded, but that wasn't the worst of it. It was so crowded inside that we went to the outdoor patio to watch the game on the... read more
Terrible Service! – I have never had a worse experience at a resturant before! Seems all the servers have to do is take our order and thats it. She took our drink and food order together because she left us for so long. Someone else served our food and it had to be autioned off. Runners are fine but make sure you know who to serve what and to where! Our food came out before our drinks, she forgot our waters, we were served a meal without silverware, napkins or a side plate. Who serves without utensils and its not like she fo... read more
Stay AWAY!!! – This place is a joke! It was recommended to us as we were in from out of town and just wanted to watch a some football on a Sunday afternoon. First, unless you liked the Lions (or Tigers as they were playing across the street too), forget about watching the game you want to see. I understand it's IN Detroit, but this place has many many TVs... surely they can put more than the Lions and Tigers games on right? I asked for the San Diego/Green Bay game and they told me they couldn't find it. Doesn't a sports bar ... read more
Great Beer Selection – If you have not been recently, you need to go! 63" Plasma TV's too numerous to count, huge selection of draft and bottled beer, cool motorcycle display, great food and service. Best place before during or after and event downtown!
Wings – Go watch the wings dominate people here and have the time of your life. It is so awesome you will love it
Bring your Red Wings passion and indulge in cuisine that's much better than bar food. – In Short This is Red Wings central: See high points of Stanley Cup victories, statues of Steve Yzerman and Gordie Howe and jerseys from the old days. When Second City is playing (in the same building), a young crowd primes itself at Hockeytown's ice bar beforehand. Several levels above bar food, the menu includes some traditional dishes like salmon, ribs, cobb salad and strip steak, and some a little showier, like spinach-and-brioche-encr... read more
Only for the Bennegans / TGI crowd – If you like very average, mass-appeal food and beer, you'll love this place. It's one of the most popular spots in Detroit. It's a bar, a restaurant, and a club, and even has a theater. Everybody in town knows about it, and inevitably comers here. Knowledge of this place denotes no sophistication. I've been there 20 times or so, due to friends under various circumstances. If you are a beer or food snob, this place is only for the socialization, of which you will find plenty.
