The Hippodrome Theatre is the centerpiece of theFrance-Merrick Performing Arts Center, holding all of the center's shows. Located just three blocks away from the University of Maryland, this performing arts theater is a true gem of the city. This Vaudeville theater was built in 1914 and designed by Thomas White Lamb, one of the most prominent theater architects of his time. Over the years the theater went through various transformations, from a movie theater to a performing arts venue that it is today.

The theater is just beautiful. The seats are NOT. The seats are so close together that your legs cramp. I had a woman sitting in front of me, between her weight and her stiff leg she could not sit all the way down into the seat. I might as well have been sitting behind Shaquille O'Neal
im a 6' tall, 300lb man, and the seats in this theater are horrible. seat width is fine, but the space between the person in front of you and your knees doesnt exist (femur length). you cant turn your feet, move, adjust, anything. my wife half my size was also not comfortable. i talked to an usher to see if the was anything that could be done, they laughed and said i can stand on the side of the theater by the stairs, so i do. I loved it my first time being in the Hippodrome, first time seeing Lewis black him and John his front man was awesome the only thing was no elbow room seats are to close I'll go back and see other shows and a huge plus parking garage right across the street
Omg everything was awesome. Everyone were very professional
I've been meaning to treat my wife to a nice play and the show was my way of saying thank you for the many years of putting up with me, so this Valentine's I choose this venue and in the same time wanted to thank my closes of friends Gary and Jenny for their friendship over the years. We all had a great experience and to boot as we exit the theater they asked us for an interview and get our opinion of the show. I wish them tremendous success and look forward to similar shows. Thank you for your history in pictures and ballet... read more
I when to see Shen yun yesterday. The show is awesome and will love to see them again next year. But the theater it self not so good. I only gave 3 stars bc the seat is not comfortable. It pretty small and also if someone about 5'2 like me or my friend who is 5'4, got someone who is about 5'7 sit I front of us. You won't see anything. The whole time it was uncomfortable for my friend and I. We have to rise our head up the hold time.
