Tried to discontinue service to my dad's phone service because he went to a foster home. Called continuously in March 2021. Since no one picks up the phone and I was on hold for hours, I wrote a letter and sent them a copy of my power of attorney also. This is now May of 2021. Can I give it 0 stars? My bill was $84.99 for the last few months and lower for the years prior, and now mysteriously went up Now $300.28 . That is $209.41 for internet and $90.87 for basic tv. I did not order STARZ pak and do not want it or the DVR. No notice, and now I see others are being ripped off. I called, and the guy said that was reasonable (well he gets his free) . I had $34.95/month residential internet service from them for last 2 years but this month, all of sudden without any advance notice, they increase the charge to $134.41 for same service. It's almost 4X amount. Called customer service but recording said more than 2 hours wait. Impossible to reach and get answer. Worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Hawaiian Telcom suddenly raised our bill from $88 a month to almost TRIPLE that amount at a whopping $209.27 a month. I can understand raising the rates a little but triple? In light of what's going on with the current economy and COVID, how can companies like these shamelessly price gouge people into paying not double but triple the bill? Hawaiian Telcom provides advance notice on customer bills and/or its website when there are changes with its rates or if promotional discounts expire. In this case, it appears that promotional discounts expired and rates reverted to Standard Rates, which is in accordance with terms of service. An email message was sent to the customer offering assistance with updating their rates.
I was a long time Hawaiian Telcom customer (decades) and they by far have the worst customer service of any major business in Hawaii. It may be a legacy of their monopoly days as the only telephone company, but has not improved or changed even when in a now competitive telecom industry. I have had internet and phone service for many years solely through Hawaiian Telcom, so cannot compare with other service providers. First, this company is not locally owned. We are trying to cancel our Hawaiian Telcom internet service. We called yesterday and tried to "chat" on their website with no response. This morning we drove down to their office on Bishop Street and the single worker there told us that she could not cancel our service and gave us a phone number to call.
