When I proposed to my girlfriend (now wife), I gave her my mother's engagement ring (and wedding band, but that's another story). The ring was very old, and the first jeweler we took it to told us that the ring couldn't be resized. A good friend of mine recommended Harry Merril & Son, and they not only resized it, they incorporated a beautiful hand-carved design for both bands that updated the style and still preserved the integrity of the original designs, and they helped me pick out an incredible band for myself. What a wonderful experience dealing with Harry Merrill & Son. My fiancé bought my engagement ring from them and they were friendly, educational and loyal. We went back to have a custom made wedding band to go along with my engagement ring and they made an amazing replica of an estate ring that they had showed us. It was happenstance how we found this place 6 yrs ago, visiting from NYC. We bought my engagement ring here. Truly one of a kind ring and business! Was an amazing experience! Everyone is knowledgeable, not at all pushy, very friendly and willing to work with ideas and pricing. We were in town today from MD and stopped by, and we were warmly greeted again! We don't live in Philly, but this the only jeweler we would ever trust and drive the distance for. You won't regret it!
