With a solid selection of beers and basic menu, Grendel's was made for happy hour: half-price food between Monday to Wednesday 5 to 7:30pm or Thursday to Sunday 9-11:30pm . For a splurge, try their dark ‘n stormy: ginger beer + serious rum. Even better—they have hard cider on tap. The food? Unremarkable, but definitely good enough to return. In nice weather, aim for the patio, but be aware the half-price deal is only available inside.

Grendels is located in the heart of Harvard Square & is a Cambridge institution. It’s got a bit of a speakeasy feel ...down the stairs you find a horseshoe bar...nice & dark with fast & friendly bartenders and servers ...it’s a bartenders bar. This is not a corporate b.s. business and that’s one more reason to love and support it. Grendels is as “local” as it gets...the staff is local, the feel is local and in my opinion...in the age of “Cambridge gentrification” we have a duty to keep places like this alive. Great service, food and atmosphere!
Recently moved to Harvard from abroad and have done a bar crawl a few times in the area and still I recommend Grendal's for atmosphere particularly if, like me, you enjoy sitting at the bar and conversing with others. Great tunes, beers and the bar guy (Russell?) is a friendly and talkative chap that deserves a beer. Cheers! 🍻

Great food at a very low price! It’s also a neat place to grab a drink.
Good and relaxed place to sit and chill
We had excellent deviled eggs and tasty hummus. And Brugal rum, bonus! Good service, too.
