Did you know the cells in your eye come in different shapes? Rod-shaped cells allow you to see shapes, and cone-shaped cells allow you to see color. Rods work at very low levels of light. We use these for night vision because a small amount of light can activate a rod. Rods don't help with color vision, which is why at night, we see everything in a gray scale.
