For those New Yorkers who yearn for a taste of Vermont without leaving the city, Good Enough To Eat satisfies with down home decor and simple comfort food. It is incredibly popular for brunch, with lines around the corner; however, the food is not really good enough to warrant such a long wait. The small space can also get crowded for breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the week.

WHY SUBMIT YOURSELF TO THE ABUSE – When I first moved to the UWS, I thought this place great. I would get up frequently on Sundays and order pick up. HOWEVER, GETE has completely gone down hill - mostly in terms of their staff. The last time I called for take out, they said they never do that on Sundays - which was a lie since I had been doing it for months before. Then, I called for delivery, which their website clearly says they do but do not mention a radius. I called and after being directed to the dining room (when you ... read more
A good breakfast/brunch spot. – Great brunch. The french toast, pancakes, farm fresh eggs and the freshly squeeze OJ are reasons to come here to feed the furnace.
Don't eat the birthday cake! – I trusted the reviews on citysearch to help me find a bakery that makes good birthday cakes. I called up this bakery and asked for their most popular birthday cake order, and then I picked it up and brought it out to the Japanese restaurant where we were having the birthday dinner. I completely regret that decision without actually having gone there first to sample the cake. It was a yellow cake with chocolate frosting, something I could have picked up in a cake mix box at gristedes. Fine. But,... read more
Brunch is Great! – I have been here a few times and have not been disappointed....The food taste VERY fresh and the Eggs do not taste processed-Everything taste home made. Desserts are even better, but becareful if your on a diet! The line at times moves a bit slow, mostly on a Sunday, but its worth it. I would definitely recommend coming here!
Great Mac & Cheese – I came here on a late Wednesday night so it was not crowded at all. I ordered the Mac n Cheese & it was probably the best I've ever had so far. Gruyere cheese on ziti pasta. I couldn't finish the whole dish but had a great lunch the next day as well. My friend ordered the Chicken Parmesean & it was decent, but he wanted my Mac n Cheese more! We tried the coconut cake dessert which was recommended by the waitress, but it wasn't that great. The service was good. I will definitely come back to have some mac... read more
I really wanted to love it. – A friend of mine suggested GETE after having brunch there and she said it was delicious. I looked at the menu and we decided to try dinner, it looked like real kinda comfort yummy foods. Now, there's no denying that place is adorable and cozy and I had zero complaints with the waitstaff...in fact, he was very attentive. We started with griddled corn bread, which was amazing, seriously! I ordered the BBQ'd Pork Chops and my friend had the Thanksgiving/ Turkey dinner. I was so excited to dig into ... read more
Not worth the wait – I've been to GETE numerous times over the last few years, although only for brunch, never dinner. The lines are long, and the food is good, but only by comparison to what's available in the neighborhood. Lately, in particular, the food has taken a turn for the worse. The last few times I've gone for Sunday brunch the waffles and pancakes tasted like they'd been cooked the day before and left under a heat lamp. The bacon, usually thick and hearty, was cold and fatty. And the kitchen has screwed up our ord... read more
Great Breakfast Spot on the UWS – While this restaurant doesn't receive as much hype as Sarabeths, Freds, or even Popover, the breakfast/brunch is just as good - if not better. This cozy, country-esque joint makes you forget the hustle and bustle that's outside its front door. The servers are always friendly and quick to refill up your cup of coffee. (In fact, one the waitress' even has a warm, Southern twang). Most importantly, this place serves the best french toast in the UWS. Both the pumpkin french toast or the cinnamon... read more
Excellent brunch, bad service – Every time I frequent this place for brunch, I love the food and find myself wondering what happened to the waitstaff. While waiting for the food and staring at my empty cup (dying for some coffee), I swear that I won't come back. But, the food wins me over every time. Its always delicious!
