It's always great when you get to meet and see the chef/owner of the restaurant in process of creating their edible craft. I'm usually not a fan of southern cooking because I've had to much of it either lack luster in flavor or too smothered in salt and/or sauces to taste anything but condiment. We absolutely loved GUK! The BBQ platter was a big hit with my family of 5, as well as the drop biscuits, shrimp & grits, mac-n-cheese, strawberry/watermelon/mint salad, strawberry shortcake, bourbon pecan pie.......it was pretty much all loved and devoured! We will definitely be back!

Best jerk chicken I've ever had in my area!!! Watched him on top chef and he's just a real southern gentleman. Joe and Julie will be back to try his shrimp and grits!

This was the first place we stopped once we got to Amelia island. It was better than my expectations! The bbq was so delicious and I loved the bbq sauce bar. The pickles were the best pickles I've ever had, wish they were sold near Nashville. Also got to meet the celebrity chef and he was so nice! My favorite place!

Last night Gilbert's Underground Kitchen catered a dinner party at our home for 35 people. Everyone loved the food. We had blackened Mahi with a fruit salsa, jerk chicken and brisket with blue cheese. The Brunswick stew and Hoppin John (field peas and rice) Mac and cheese and collard greens. ( the collard greens were the first thing gone- people that didn't normally like them said they were great and not prepared same as they had eaten prior). We were referred to this restaurant by a family member. Just by the looks of the outside of the building, we were impressed. The atmosphere is super laid back with a modern-southern twist. Drinks were served in traditional ball jars. The food was PHENOMENAL! I ordered shrimp and grits while my husband ordered bbq alligator sliders. Gilbert's Underground Kitchen hosted our rehearsal lunch and did the catering for our wedding. The food was amazing and our guests loved it! My dad said it was a 10 out of 10, one family member who doesn't even like Brussels sprouts LOVED Chef Kenny's Brussel sprout slaw, and the desserts were just as delicious as the main meal.
