Opposite of what I expected! – I was told to take my girlfriend (now fiance) to this romantic spot, since I was looking for the perfect place to propose. It was so small & so crowded, that I heard the complete lives of those next to us! That wasn't the worst, our server Mr. Guido-South Philly, was hitting on my girl the entire time, and thought I was one of his 'corner hanging boys', it was the worst evening ever. sasskan – The prices have increased and the quality of food has decreased. Service is not as prompt as in the past. Still good pizza and wonderful opera singing.
Heaven – Stumbled across while looking for small homey restaurants in S Phila. Like landing in heaven. Some of the friendliest and most talented wait staff I have ever encountered. The singing is as professional as it gets. Have gone back and taken friends who were as enchanted as we were. Food is wonderful especially calamari appetizer with hot peppers. We come from AC and love to sample S Phila restaurants. If there is one better, I do not know where it is. Do not be turned off by the exterior that looks like a pizza shop.... read more
great Italian restaurant Franco Luigis is a great Italian restaurant. They often have live music with a piano which really makes for an entertaining evening. Their menu is extensive, with a variety of pasta dishes, veal, chicken, and seafood. I love their stuffed shells and ziti dishes. They also have a variety of appetizers as well as steak subs and hoagies. They facility is available for private parties and would be a great place for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The parking situation is usually pretty good.
THE place for Pizza – This is THE BEST pizza in Philly, hands down. I've eaten, well, more pizza than I probably should have in this city. The restaurant's pretty good too, but if you're ever wondering what to have on a lazy Wednesday night, F&L's is it!
Terrific – My lover and I ventured into this charming BYOB and were intoxicated by the talented staff and wonderful food. My lover had the Pollo puccini (the house specialty). While I had the Bolognese. My lover was dissapointed that our waitress did not volunteer to get us more wine from the local wine store....otherwise the staff was very accomodating. We were amazed by the vocal talents of the staff...except for the guy with the glasses (boo!). My lover and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Awesome – The service was friendly and fast. The waitresses and chefs intermittenly sung operetta's and the whole place had awarm, friendly atmosphere that made it seem like the whole place knew each other. The food was nothing short of spectacular. While it might not win international acclaim, it is easily as good as restaruants at twice the price.
