History Established in 1946. In 1930, my grandfather Robert Kittredge along with his brother, a pet monkey and a baby coyote, drove into Oak Creek Canyon on one of the first motorcycles built by Harley-Davidson. They bought the property which is now Forest Houses Resort, for $60 per acre and began building the Log House, their dreamed-about citadel in the woods. The Log House took three years to finish. After the Second World War, Phoenix began to boom and Oak Creek Canyon became known as a good place to visit. Robert, whose... read more

Love this place!!! One of my favorites. I have been going there for years !!! Perfect get away ..I highly recommend this place !
We have been coming to Forest Houses since 1999. Three generations once were able to join us there and we hope to be able to continue that tradition next year. It is a retreat we look forward to. Thanks Bob and staff!
We've been coming here for the past few years and just stayed in the Studio house for our honeymoon! It's always so peaceful and relaxing. Tom and bob are always so pleasant! We look forward to our next trip back!
This has been our anniversary get away for over 10 years. We love it. So happy to hear that the slide fire didn't get to it. See you all in October.
My wife and I go to the Forest Houses resort about five to six weekends a year. We've been doing that about 10 years now and have never been treated poorly by the owners or staff. It's normally the difficult ones that end up getting "poor treatment". I can say this isn't a place to go have a "event". It's a quiet retreat for people that want some peace and quiet in their lives if only for a weekend. No bad treatment here and we will continue to go as often as we can...even after the fire.
We, too, have visited several times in the past, and love the peacefulness and the uniqueness of the houses. A short weekend break always feels like we had a week-long vacation.
Although I haven't stayed at the Forest Houses in quite a few years, I think I must be your oldest customer...well, not in age (I'm 59), but I first stayed with you in 1973 (as Vickie Mahler). We always looked forward to visiting with "Forest House Bob" and staying in all the different houses. We loved being able to bring our pups, too. Throughout the years, we came back, over and over again. You actually outlasted both of my marriages. ;-) When I heard about the forest fire last night, the first thing I thought of was the F... read more
